After buying a tuna homage in the form of the Steeldive 1975, finding that I liked the design more than I thought I would and seeing that it wore well on wrist, I wanted to add a ‘real’ tuna to the collection. I also wanted to see how a homage, that got good reviews, compared to a watch from the manufacturer who came up with the original design.
I had decided to keep an eye open for the remainder of the year to see if I could pick one up either in a sale or as a good secondhand piece. Almost immediately I spotted this one on eBay at a decent price and, after managing to get a further discount off the seller, thought what the hell…..I had to have it.
It arrived today and wow, I am so pleased with it.
I thought the quality of the Steeldive was good but this is exceptional. If someone would have put some plastic stickers on it you would not have known it wasn’t new. Excellent bezel action, and yes it lines up, a little back play in certain parts but not problematic and a smooth crown. It sits perfectly on wrist. I had planned to change the strap because I’m not overly keen on those waffle designs, but it is unbelievably comfortable so there is no way I am changing it now.
I know some would argue that it’s not ‘the real deal’ because it’s from Seiko’s urban/street series and is slightly smaller - 43.2 compared to 47ish. I would argue, as one reviewer had said, Seiko have updated their watch designs for the modern market and the smaller case size reflects that. The design overall remains the same irrespective of the size and it is still diver certified.
I‘m now on the lookout for a Seiko Arnie but that has to be new, so I won’t be making a concerted effort for it until the sales in November……although I did try one on in the shop yesterday and it sat fantastically well on wrist and was unbelievably comfortable - I don’t know I am going to manage until November 😫😫😫😫

Congrats on a fine watch. Looks great on you 🍻
I'm intrigued by the lighter colour on the bezel. Is it a blue or a grey? It's lovely how it changes colour in the different lights.
Do you think you will still where your Steeldive now you have 'the real thing'? I have a couple of homages that I love, but if I got the originals I'm not sure I would really wear them any more. 🤷
the Arnie is a cheaper watch at $390.00 on amazon.

Thank you….it’s feels great too.
The best colour representation is in the main picture - it is a shade of grey - but your right, it does change in different light conditions.
That’s a really good question…..I think I will because the Steeldive is a wonderful sunburst yellow. Now if they were the same colour 🤔….I think the Steeldive would be sold. I don’t think I’d have bought the Seiko though had it been the same colour; I’m all for mixing up my collection.

Not once I’ve paid import to the UK 😞

Lol……..I’m not spending anymore money 😂😂 got none left to spend 🤪
Congratulations on acquiring a brilliant watch. I think many are put off the "Tuna" by the enormous sounding dimensions but even the full size wears so much smaller. I love mine...

Thank you. You’re bang on. Although I knew they wore well I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the Arnie when I tried it on in the shop. Even though the dimensions of that are similar if not the same as my Steeldive, the pictures of it online make it look enormous. In fact I thought the dial was quite diddy in real life 😂
I’ve truly have fell in love with this design 😍 Its going to be hard to keep another one away from the collection…..after I get the Arnie of course
Can't go wrong with any tuna, love my padi tuna and seiko seem on top of their qc issues with the tuna 👍
Ah yeah that's sweet
Congratulations on your new tuna. I really like the grey colour on the bezel 👍
