What would your watch niche be if you made your own social media channel?

Social Media isn't for everybody and producing content at the highest levels is a full-time job (and for many it's a lovely side hustle that they are still willing to put the time and effort in, to hone a skill). There are a lot of watch channels out there on YouTube, Instagram etc. . . . a lot of them are the same honestly but some do provide fresh takes or high production values or sneak peaks into the industry. It's a very dude-centric hobby, so thank god for the few women who have entered the space.

SO . . . IF you were to add your voice to the community (and I love some of the columns and longer threads here on Watch Crunch), what would your unique contribution be? What do you think is currently missing?

Something that's been on my mind as I cleared out the million and one channels I subscribe to on YouTube btw. my various interests to a more manageable number. Sometimes a personality was annoying haha . . .sometimes it was just that the content was parroting what I could read on a website, sometimes it was a channel that covered watches I had zero interest in etc. And as I stared a my A Man and His Watch book . . . I def wish more women entered the space. As I watched yet another Hodinkee or WatchBox video or article that catered only to the super wealthy and honestly out of touch, I wish that there were more books, more social content that gave voice to a more average collector who isn't an heir to a global corporation.

If I didn't feel watch content was oversaturated and I felt comfortable on-camera, my lane would probably be... #whimsicalwednesday

I’d share, but who knows, perhaps when I’m retired in a few years. :-)

More direct; an honest review channel that reviews anything they want free of sponsorships with zero Fs given for view count, only the quality of the content. Most channels only review what they like, as a result they review the same brands/watches and rarely take a hard take on watches, nor compare to others. They also tend to go for the same few brands that drive clicks. In addition, so many shy away from comparing others from the same private label or price range.

I get it, it takes the first review, good or bad, to set the tone for a release and many don’t want to contribute to a brand failing, but there are ways to be critical without being a jerk. At the moment that content, the way I would like to see it produced, doesn’t exist.

Watches from a cultural and historical perspective. Most of watch content is focused on reviews. Which is of course fine. But sometimes I feel there could more content that is not mostly about (not) buying something.

I'm in the Armida, Islander and Raven type affordables group. Not a Kevin O'give me a fuckn break Leary type!! Or is it O'Teary🤔?? I enjoy the watch and don't need to be enjoyed for having the watch. That's what I'd like to bring, If tha sells, I'm in!!!

Producing high quality content isn't easy, so gotta give props to everyone doing it.

A series following the designing and manufacturing of a watch, just a one-off. Along the way visiting factories of smaller brands that bring something unique to the table like anOrdain with their grand feu dials or Louis Erard with their guilloché techniques. Those unique things could then be incorporated in the one-off watch build. That's something that kind of sounds interesting to me.

I have seen Teddy Baldassarre do this and Marc Frankel from Long Island Watch. However the logistics of such an endeavor is something not everyone can pull off. I also get the feeling some of these companies are picky about which content creators they work with.

What I would like to see is variety. I understand talking about the usual horological suspects, but the amount of brands which are completely ignored is staggering. Watches are made all over the world, not just Switzerland, Japan or Germany.

I’d do a review channel for 5 to 6 inch wrists. Could be my wife and I as we both live in this world.

Besides some try ons, She’d also be good giving the muggle POV as she knows almost nothing about brands.

I’d be very curious to know if the tons of watches I perceive as too big (bulgari Panerai gshock …) fit or even look good on smaller wrists

Call it: “ Lug to Lug “

If anybody has seen the CityNerd channel for urban planning, that's what I would be for watches.

Watches $200 and under. I have thirty of them. And I haven't seen a channel that deals only with this. It's a niche I'd be qualified to scratch.

This is worth doing, if only for the title. I have a seven-inch wrist but I would watch your channel. I don't care about the size of a watch as long as I like its dial. I have sizes 34mm-44mm. I could get info about smaller watches from your channel. I think others would also view it for that reason. There was (is?) a channel called The Slender Wrist but I think he got all the way 'up' to 40mm.

cheers!

I’m one of the nutters that puts on both a 36 and a 44 and, if both fit, might say Awesome 👏! For either one, if it looks awesome and fits well. Many even mid size watches don’t fit though 🤷‍♂
