Anyone else bored on a Thursday evening? Let’s put a 22mm Nato on an 18mm Casio 650

I wanted to try the Casio on a Nato strap but I had a couple of problems. First, I didn’t have any goofy 18mm Natos and second, I think an 18mm strap looks a little narrow on a Casio watch. Of course the first thing that came to mind was cutting, burning and destruction. 😀

First let’s tape the strap to do a little layout.

Set the watch on and mark around it.

Mark the area to cut.

Clamp it down with a straight edge.

Cut with an Xacto knife.

First cuts.

FIRE!!!

First test cuts.

Needed about 2mm more than just the outline of the watch for the strap to conform and I wanted the corners truer so I broke out my beard shears and trimmed the corners and sealed them with the torch again.

Mounted on the watch.

Passed through.

Turn it over.

On wrist!

Yes, a good way to better match the strap width to the case for sure!

Nice combo 🏆

Nice combo 🏆

Turned out better than I thought it might. I used that strap because somehow I had two of them. Actually went pretty well with the watch and I didn’t ruin a strap I might have needed for another watch since I had two.

This is awesome! How difficult was it to thread through?

I'm thinking about doing something exactly like this but with a strap the size of a lunar replica and Velcro so I can wear one outside my ski jacket. But I was thinking of adding 16mm mounting tabs instead of threading all the strap thickness through.

I placed the strap on the back of the watch and inserted the spring bars. No threading through required!😎

I need to experience more with different straps myself. You did a great job! The color coordination looks factory made 🎯

Something I would do differently is perhaps cut with a single edge razor blade rather than the Xacto. That or I might try heating the blade with a candle and cutting with a hot blade. I had a lot of “fuzzing” I kept trimming off. Cauterizing the cut as I went or cutting with a sharper blade might have prevented that.

Yeah I had a similar experience when making a sensor cutout of a Nato for my Galaxy watch and Fitbit. Definitely need to get a hot knife for clean cuts.

Well done! Thanks for sharing!👍🏻

You can buy conversion end links on eBay. I have one worldtimer on leather and another on fmk. Your method is admittedly more fun!!

·

Did the same to my G-Shock GA2100 👌

·

Well done! I tried my hand at this on a Timex and it didn't quite turn out 😅 🍻

Thanks! I’ll search for those. I have a metric ton of Natos and it would be nice to use any of them I wanted to.

If your watch didn’t fall off your wrist it was a success. 😀

Would have been better if I could have figured out some way to involve a Dremel tool. It’s not really screwed up until you take a Dremel to it.😂

As a Vostok enthusiast, a Dremel is a vital tool. 😂 The lug spacing is always interesting, 18ish, 20ish and 22ish are the most common.
