Matching chronometers!

Porsche Design Chronometer small seconds - the ‘watch box’ (a Taycan Cross Tourismo, shown here in its shipping wrap) came yesterday, so now this watch is living its best life. Yes, they match except for the date function on the watch; yes, this makes me a complete nerd in two realms; and, yes, my station wagon is faster than yours! Happy new car Saturday all!

Wow!!! Congratulations!! Enjoy both in good health!

·

Absolutely awesome!!!

·

Lucky you!

The watch looks good. I’d prefer it if instead of “Porsche Design” splashed across two upper quadrants of the dial, they’d used something simpler. Perhaps a unique to the watches stylised “PD” or summat?

I’m very interested: what’s the build like? Who made the movement? And how does it wear?? I love all the other elements of the design. Is the date window really that invisible?

Yes, my watchnerd has been activated!

Congrats on both

Congratulations, if you bring the watch box to a meetup will you let it be inspected?

Porsche design is an Independent watch brand

The movement is designed and made inhouse

The earliest porsche design watches were made by orfina

They switched to IWC in 1978

In 1995 porsche acquired the watch brand Eterna

In 2014 porsche design became an independent watch brand after selling eterna

Good comments and questions. The build quality is excellent, the titanium case is well finished; the bezel and case back are highly polished and look like stainless steel to me, but the Porsche Design site claims the case is all titanium. It’s a big case (42mm, it also comes in 39mm) but not heavy. It wears well on my 7.125“ wrist, but may not do well on a smaller wrist. The leather band is thick and not very flexible; it has a substantial titanium deployant clasp. It’s comfortable on the wrist. The movement is a new COSC certified Porsche Design Caliber WERK 03.200. I’m not sure what it’s based on, maybe others know. It’s doing well at about +2/sec/day. The date window is indeed very subtle, with the black background for the numerals. Time and date are very legible. The hands are thin but well lumed. The chamfering of the dial and subdial and the subtle circular finish on the main dial give more interest than many all black dials. Overall a good watch, with or without the car! It’s about $5k on the Porsche Design website, but available for less from EU ADs. Hope this helps!

Indeed, we are planning to come to the 12/3 meetup. Susi also has a new (to her) Porsche Design titanium. We’ll have them both. I’m also going to bring the Earl, I’ll likely save some of my other new additions for future meets. Hope to see you all soon.

Sounds good. The plan is to be at the 12/3 meetup. I plan on wearing my DIY watch club watch as it is the closest I have to a military watch and I plan to bring my Earl. I will save some of my others for a later meet as you are doing? I am trying to get a white elephant, $20 limit, gift exchange going for the later December meetup.

You're my kind of nerd. Nicely done. Enjoy both.

Much appreciated.

Very nice. Congratulations. I do love seeing a completionist in action. 🍻

First off…THANK YOU FOR BUYING AN ESTATE CAR. (Station wagon to you American lot) Secondly, welcome to the Porsche Design club & Porsche Club of America! Please keep posting your watch and Taycan in wruw please! I’ll do more of the same as well! I personally think PD is overlooked by a lot of people because they assume it’s like a BMW watch you’d buy at the dealer or something shady like that. But they are in fact a real watch manufacture now. They’ve always been made by reputable Swiss Madison’s but they’ve still had a hard time penetrating the marketplace. Congrats again!

That crown is cool.

·

That’s cool. I did not know the watch matched the car’s clock. Nerds unite! 🤓

I like the gift idea. I’m in if we do it.

Agree, I’ve been ‘given’ an inexpensive BMW and also a Mini Cooper watch when I got those cars. Needless to say nothing at all like PD, a reputable brand. The lug and strap design of this watch alone make it unique and worth a look. I’m glad that be joining the club(s) and I’ll keep posting!

It was discussed at the last meeting, I hope Josh makes it official soon. I already got the gift I plan to put into the mix.

I was just pricing out the panamera sport turismo (cheers for fast wagons) the other day had a good laugh when I realized that optioning the dash clock got you a faster 0-60 time. I ain’t mad at it. Enjoy!

That’s right. Of course everything in Porsche land is optional, but my wife and I couldn’t understand why the clock cost so much until we saw all that came with the Sport Chrono package on the Taycan. This option was worth it beyond the matching clock. The function dial on the steering wheel is intuitive and I’m already using it a lot. Good luck with your hunt!
