Watch Crime - Paul Thorpe raising awareness on UK television

Everyone in the UK needs to thank Paul Thorpe for what he is doing. For years now, UK watch crime has risen significantly - particularly in London. Its time we made our streets safe again.

Unfortunately with the small sentences that the judge's hand out to the criminals their is no deterrent, putting more CCTV up would help but people then complain about privacy laws

A great reason to avoid spending too much on Rolex and other famously EXPENSIVE brands 😎

Cameras are a lazy solution to what is really needed - more competent police on the street, tougher sentences, fast-tracking through courts for street crime and reinstate stop-and-search.

Men riding scooters dressed all in black, with black visored helmets... Be wary.

·

Some watches you can’t even risk homages of. Apple Watch is ironically the safe option, when you consider those aren’t exactly cheap. Some parts of town are worse than others mimd you.

·

Be aware, be capable and situational awareness in all environments is a must. This is nothing new, this shit has happened for the entirety of human history. And people today tend to not actually understand that we currently live in the safest time at any point of human existence.

In BKK this year while I was there, in Chonburi alone there was 6 drive by shootings I caught on the local news . I didn’t wear anything looking worth snatching.

CCTV has never been a deterrent to crime. 99% of the time the quality of the images is so low that you cannot identify the perpertrators.

I agree that police walking the beat is a great idea. If you follow the Secret Barrister on Twitter, you will learn that the criminal Justice System is well underfunded and has a backlog of years in some cases. Stop and search never went away, if you fit a certain profile.

Don't know if you are from Madeira, but we were told it's a safe place to wear any watch ,this was from the Rolex boutique in Funchal

Trouble is how do you stop and search people on scooters if your a police officer on foot, not sure what the answer is apart from not wearing watches

Here's my unpopular opinion... That's what you get with a society that has been deprived of means to defend itself, of their rights to self-defence, and forced to rely on CCTV cameras and cops who laughably carry only a baton and pepper spray like some shopping centre security guard.

I wouldn't buy a watch that's a thief magnet.

And more importantly, I wouldn't want to live in the UK. If I ever was to live in any other country, it'd be America's "Dixieland."

We can legally own and carry. We also don't need a license for antique blackpowder arms and replicas of them, so I could buy and carry a .44-cal Civil War/mid-Victorian era revolver, if I so pleased. Somehow, we don't have a Wild West here. No school shootings, no spree killings. You don't see anyone here debating if we should only legally own chopsticks and ban forks, because table cutlery or gardening tools can be weaponized.

And our police officers are always armed.

Our country is far from great, but if you'd like a safer environment and don't mind the raging inflation, you're welcome to move here😉

It is only good to have police on the beat who are capable, increase policing by 25% but they are all flaccid uni grads aged 19 with zero life skills, tell me, what difference will that make? Zero that’s what. While we have a liberalist woke mindset, policing, both sides of the pond will be ineffective. They need to start targeting veterans who have all the baseline attributes needed for policing, the rest of ‘policing’ can be trained.

The US police have absolutely insane low levels of training, thus making them both physically and mentally ineffective. The British police want university grads who they make false promises to, by telling them that they are all going to be promoted, when they find out that’s not the case after the first street idiot calls them a ‘f’unt and spits at them they leave. The attrition rate is huge. One well trained switched on individual is worth ten of what we see on our streets currently. That is a broad generalisation, obviously there are are the few that smash it, but, unfortunately it is the few.

I see things a little differently here. I see the police are already paramilitarised in many respects and the last thing that any nation needs is a force made up of people who are likely to have been traumatised by their military service policing the streets.

You still need to ensure that a competent individual is selected with a proper selection process which is then followed by on going assessment throughout training.

And not all veterans are traumatised, this I can attest to.

no offence intended fella

There needs to be a lot more pressure on the manufacturer of these high end watches from the governments to keep track on stolen watches !! It's like :" buy my 30000 $ watch but I don't give a f...... If it's stolen off of you ! Just by another watch from me !!!"

My advice : buy a gun, conceal it and next time just shoot the fu..... !!

I must say in my experience, you could not be further from the truth. In my place of work, we have schemes to get ex military people into employment, and I have worked with a few of them now. I find them to be highly competent and capable individuals. No problems at all, and I would not hesitate to wok with any of them again.

Where did I say incompetent? I said possibly traumatised by their service. There is a huge difference.

You implied their incompetence when you suggested they were all traumatised and therefore unable to do the job.

Please don't assume to know what I was thinking. If I had wanted to say anything like that, I would have said it outright. The fact that you chose to read between the lines is on you.

"the last thing that any nation needs is a force made up of people who are likely to have been traumatised by their military service policing the streets."

You disagree with ex military. The only argument you put forward is that they are traumatised. What else am I expected to take from this statement?

Please be aware, Paul Thorpe is an open Xenophobe. He has a weird hidden agenda where he feels foreign people shouldn’t be allowed into his country.. but in a bizarrely entitled twist, he’s also announced he wants to leave his country and go somewhere better.. what a loser.

I didn't expect far-left slurs on this site... But I guess it's all social media, so typically unavoidable. Opinion discarded. Go slur somewhere else.
