My father has seen the watch I’m giving him for retirement, what he hasn’t seen is the box, new clasp and (hopefully) engraving that will be done to it before he receives it. And he didn’t know it was a gift for him, I was just wearing it.
I opted for a Timex Dybabeat (which I *of course* had to wear test for quality assurance) — he’s always been it I technical things so I think the non-quartz electric movement will fascinate him
Usually I feel like I’m buying something unique or inexpensive enough that it wouldn’t be worth faking; damaged or not maintained properly is more of a concern.
As I’m just starting my collection journey, my biggest fear right now when buying a watch online is not liking it… either it fitting wrong or thinking I was buying a quality piece and it’s actually junk — haven’t been stung yet, but it’s bound to happen eventually
While the Kapernick isn’t an uncommon Raketa, I get lots of people asking me about my “Paketa” watch when they first see it — personally I dream of owning the Raketa Russian Code so the *real* questions can start getting asked 😂
I really like this watch, but knowing it won’t be daily-worn makes me hesitate on an automatic — even with a higher power reserve I lean towards the “foolproof” quartz option
