Realistic five watch collection

So as I sit here at work, bored out of my mind I began to think about watches (as one usually does that is on this app/website). I know there are other watches that I want, and watches I probably wouldnt part ways with but if I did and money aside what would make the most complete (but still realistic) five watch rotation for me. Now when I say money aside, I still want to be conscious of what I would spend, and I know I wouldnt spend much over 10K on a watch so something like a rose gold Rolex Skydweller or Daytona would probably be out of the question.

So in no particular order here is my list.

  • 41mm Rolex DJ fluted on a jubilee (Blue face). I can see this being a watch I could wear during meetings, dinners, and more formal settings. It would also be special enough to pass down to a son.

  • 38mm Omega Seamaster AT (white face). This would essentially be my GADA watch that would get alot of daily wear. I chose this one because I'm not one for the water but I can still get it wet if need be and throw it on alot of different straps to give it different looks.

  • Breitling Premier B09 Chronograph (Pistachio face). I LOVE this watch. I tell my AD all the time that if that watch ever goes on sale, or someone brings in a preowned one, call me immediately, I have no idea what my attraction is to this thing but it is a very strong attraction.

  • Grand Seiko GMT (SBGM 221). This is a watch that I've come close to owning on at least one occasion. Much like the B09, the 221 just speaks to me. This might be a acquisition in 2024. I digress, this is a watch that I would probably try to wear when I don't want to wear the DJ and want to show more personality with different straps.

  • And lastly my Longines Spirit Zulu (L3.802.4.53.6). Even if I got rid of watches and stuck with a five watch collection, this isnt a watch I'd get rid of. This was the watch my fiancé gifted me to commemorate our engagement, and its something I will always cherish.

What would your five watch collection look like?

We are like minded when it comes to watches. I’ve got my DJ (green rather than blue) and I’ve had my eye on that GS gmt for a while now.

My gada with a bit of water resistance is also a white face (Santos) with interchangeable bracelet/leather straps.

I’m searching for a dressy piece. So far the candidates are a rosegold Tank Louis or Breguet Altiplano. Would love a VC but don’t see that happening.

Well you'd have good dial diversity...plus chrono...GMT...dress covered

The pistachio is just heartbreakingly gorgeous.

There's a bit of overlap there,

I would probably drop the longines and replace it with a dive watch as the GS is a nicer gmt

I understand but for me, the longines was an engagement gift from my fiancé so that wouldn't happen. Plus the AT has more then enough water resistance for my use. Also, while all watches are tools, the Zulu is more of a tool watch, where I find the SBGM 221 more luxurious and probably would wear it for the look and not the GMT function.

It's odd, none of those would make my watch box, but as a collection I can't fault it. Variation in colour, function and brand. A very well thought out 5-some 👍

I like a lot of your choices.

I am currently building mine! While I have 7 watches technically, I view 4 of them as my core collection:

1. A. Lange & Söhne Richard Lange

2. Vacheron Constantin Overseas

3. Jaeger LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin

4. Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional

As for the fifth, I have not made up my mind yet. After some heavy purchases this year, it will be slow for a while. I have a few cheaper ones I am contemplating. For my next "big" purchase I haven't decided 100%. I know I want a gold watch (yellow or red), but don't know if I wanna go sporty/flexible/dressy. I think I am most interested in the Lange Zeitwerk, but that will take me years to save up for. The current main contender is the "Pikachu" Daytona (yellow gold case and dial with black sub-dials on oysterflex). The beauty of having to save up for a long time is that I can be thorough in my research and evaluation.

That’s a dream watch collection. I think the only change I’d make is the DJ being the Wimbledon dial and the Salmon Breitling as opposed to the pistachio.
