Vintage Casio from a fellow Cruncher

I love this community here at Watchcrunch. Asmara82 randomly chose to send me this awesome vintage Casio. No strings attached, just wanting to share a timepiece with a horological brother as it was not seeing much wrist time. I sense he recognized my love for old digital stuff and a Texas Instruments LED being my first watch being mentioned as starting my love of watches as a child.

We can all learn from this display of sharing in our hobby. I really think I’ll possibly do the same and randomly share a watch. Be it a watch, watch component or perhaps the greatest of all, knowledge. Sharing is caring and grows our hobby and keeps it healthy and fun. I’m all for growing the love of watches and showing it can be done with any budget. All are included here though. From a $15 Casio to a $150,000 Patek, all are welcome.

Back to this Yacht Timer…..This is a spectacular condition watch from 1985 (the year I graduated from high school) and pretty special as the the name mentions it allows for timing yacht races. Not a function you encounter often. Also no light which is a rarity among digital watches. A watch you don’t see everyday. Fits well in my collection of odd watches.

I will wear it proudly. Thanks Asmara82!

Awesome! 🥳

It’s the father of the Casio Football timer from about 1990/91. Very nice condition it is too!

Many resin watches have a cult following, but resin watches wore out the easiest. Finding one as mint as this Casio is a rarity! I have a TI 500 LED, in chocolatey brown, but the 70's plastic is brittle. Preservation of vintage LED/LCD's, especially plastic/resin, will be a challenge what with the worn markings, scratches, graphics, electronic modules to repair and/or replace. I hope 3D printing and recent reprographic advances will allow these relics to be rescued, fixed and displayed!

Asmara82 - as in Capital of Eritrea? 😀 It (Eritrea) is on the Red Sea, so having a Yacht timer would make sense! 👌

That is cool, thanks for sharing.
