Have you ever heard of this?

Apparently there is a trick that some people do where you stop a chrongraph second hand (each day, presumably in the morning) to point to the day of the month. I ain't never heard of this in my life, and it seems that I'm not alone. Feel free to read source material at https://www.watchcrunch.com/uvlite21/posts/do-you-use-your-chrono-seconds-hand-to-tell-the-date-212058#comment-832656 So did you previously know about this?

I’ve heard of it. I don’t do it.

Sounds a bit pointless to me.

Lucky for us the Seiko vk63 has a date function

Yep... if you want the date, buy a watch with a date complication.

I'm going to have to read the article because I can't work out how this works. 🤔

If I can't remember I only need to be told the date once in a day and to set it you need to know the date?

It seems to be a Speedmaster thing. I always had my suspicions about those people. Some portion of them seem to realize that chronographs are pretty useless and a date function would be better. But da moon, or whatever, so they just click-tick-click and have the chronograph seconds hand point to the number of the date of the month each day.

I guess it gives them an excuse to use the feature. I don't know. Alledgedly some other segment of owners go around with the things paused at 14 seconds as a tribute to uh Apollo number, you know, the Apollo mission with the fuel burn timed by some Omega. There was a movie which I didn't see by the same title and subject matter.

Sounds like a Moonwatch cult-like fanaticism. 😕

Well today is the 28th so you somehow get in the habit of, when donning watch in the morning, going to a calendar or something to establish the date, and then running the chronograph and stopping it at 28 seconds.

It seems to me that going through all this would remind you of the date for the day and the physical indicator is ultimately unnecessary. On top of that there is the whole "did I remember to advance the date this morning?" uncertainty.

Just yesterday we learned that some people are doing the same thing with dive timer bezels.

Do you see why I like atomic time keeping, perpetual calendar watches?
