It looks to me we are being asked to compare apples with oranges. Never having seen a Schofield I cannot comment on quality but they appear to design for a modern, minimalist buyer. NG and its sister Vulcain are revivalist brands.
commented onGrand Seiko or Nomos? Which is the bigger watch nerd brand?·
I own a Tangente and would like to own a 44GS at some time. I can't for the life of me understand how a classic Bauhaus inspired design could be "nerdy". Looking at the over-complication of some watches, the clean asthetic of Nomos and the natural-world view of GS is refreshing.
I said this before but I say it again. I wore a Longines Conquest VHP almost continuously from 1/2000 to 5/2023. It went round the world and a lot of other stops without any bother. Set it and go. Unless you were a real watch-nerd nobody would notice what made it tick. Unless your name is Andrew Morgan the only thing anybody cares about is the brand and what it looks like. A couple of weeks ago I bought a Casio Oceanus T200 for convenience. It cost £260 + £68 VAT and it wipes the floor with any COSC or METAS watch in the box. I'd like a JLC Reverso or a Glashutte Original but I know they would never beat the God Tier for time keeping.
I think that CW is the red-haired kid that others like to pick on. They have been around the clock with their brand placement, trying to please OCD watch geeks. I have two CWs, a C12 and a C65 Series 1 Sandhurst. If pressed, I would say that the written CW name placed under the "12" is the presentation that I prefer. The flags logo doesn't mean much until it has been explained to you. This rather defeats the object of a logo. Still, coronets, roses, greek letters, posh French names, difficult German names, customers get used to them. It could be worse, they could trade as "Hub-Lot" or "Dick Mile".
I hope you have as much use out of this watch as I have had out of my Conquest VHP bought in the Harrods New Year sale 2000. It took me over a year and much hunting to purchase. In the race were, wait for it, Rolex OP and Cartier Santos, all at about the same price and available. The actual Conquest was to have been the auto but was discontinued. My purchase was an end-of-line sale at about half price. It has only stopped to change the battery and the jumping hour has been very useful. Best of luck.
