Q: How did you get into watch collecting?

I got into watch collecting through my father. Funny enough, he wasn't a collector but had an appreciation for watches since he went to college in Lancaster, PA, home of Hamilton Watches. After college, he bought me my first watch, a really nice Citizen, which I regretfully lost on a trip. I bought myself another Citizen soon after since I felt guilty about the losing the previous one, and though it was a slightly different model my father loved it. To celebrate a job promotion some years later, my father and I went to an AD and I bought my first "serious" watch, an Omega Seamaster. He loved that one too and it will always remain super special to me. My father passed away in 2018 and there is not a day that I don't think about him and wish that he was still around so I could show him my collection and we could talk about watches.

Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?

A Citizen.

Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?

My father bought it for me, which meant a lot.

Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?

Be patient. Don't rush into any purchases. Spend lots and lots of time learning about the world of watches, which is vast, and getting to know your taste.

Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?

The funny thing about watch collecting, for me anyway, is that I discover something new practically every day and fall in love with it. This hobby is a mistress that perpetually tempts me. That aside, my favorite brand at the moment is Nivada Grenchen. Since the brand was recently resurrected, they have been reintroducing well loved previous models and I think they're all spot on. Guillaume Laidet, head of Nivada Grenchen, can do no wrong in my book. I am also a big fan of Excelsior Park, new and vintage, Vulcain, Bravur, Lorier and Lorca.

Q: What is your grail watch and why?

I will never have a true grail because there are too many interesting watches out there waiting to be discovered.
