Have I gone too far

I’ve written about my obsession with racing inspired watches, particularly chronographs a few times. (I’m actually a fan of chronographs of all types but racing inspired chronographs are the Jessica Chastain of watches for me.) Sooo, I’m always on the lookout for affordable pieces to add to my collection. I figure I can keep going until I catch up with the number of pairs of shoes or hand bags my wife owns before I get into any serious trouble.

A few weeks ago, we were watching something or other on the screen when I became bored, picked up the tablet and began to peruse. It didn’t take long before I stumbled upon Xeric. I remember a few YouTube videos featuring Xeric but the watches were all NASA inspired and frankly did nothing for me. I thought the unusual method for displaying the time was novel but I didn’t like a single one. I was not aware that they had since introduced a few racing inspired watches. Among the offerings, the Halograph II and Halograph III caught my attention. The Halograph II has round case and the Halograph III has a more cushion shaped case. They are both offered in a variety of colors and are available either in automatic or chronograph configuration. The Automatic runs on a Seiko NH36 and the chronograph runs on a Miyota JS50 quartz. Both have a diameter of 52 mm. I liked them and at under $300 for the quartz I figured I could pull it off without a hiccup but I wasn’t sure that I wanted a watch that far out of the norm. However, the longer I thought about it the more it appealed to me. After mulling this over for a few days I went back and pulled the trigger on the Halograph III in caution yellow. I would have gone with the orange if the orange had black highlights like the yellow, but orange with white highlights didn’t seem to have the same impact to me. The yellow with black is quite striking, but you can judge for yourself.

Of course, as usual, the included strap didn’t fit so I had to order a new strap. The strap I really wanted was out of stock so I chose the black perforated rally strap you can see in the last two photos. The first three photos show the strap that came with the watch. Now that I’ve properly introduced it here on NWA I feel that I’m free to wear it and show it off on WRUW soon. I’m curious if the guys at work will take notice. Let me know what you think.

That is a super cool watch, and definitely one that will start many good conversations when people see you wearing it.

If you have to ask, you haven’t gone far enough 😂

Xeric Holographs have been on my radar too, as I like the novel way they show the time. Would love to hear your overall impressions
