Glycines for Everybody

Max just posted a video comparing the new "Swatchpain" to the Glycine Combat Sub GL0083. I'll never know how the Swatch (or the actual) Fifty Fathoms feels on the wrist. I'm not interested in the Swatch and the OG is many times beyond my price point. (The least costly version comes in right at the price of a new 428 stroker for my G8.) I do know a bit about the Glycine. I own a Combat Sub 46 (GL0257). The size of my wrist hides the massive size of the watch in the photo. But it does present a presence. The Glycine is far beyond the quality one would expect for the $360 I paid for it (new). Based on conversations I've had with other Glycine owners, and the quality I've experienced with both my Combat Sub and my quartz Airpilot GMT (GL0434), I believe this is an attribute across the brand.

I wasn't planning on buying another watch this year, I'm saving my discretionary funds for Christmas. But after watching the video, and going back to Ashford to review their sale prices, I may just pull the trigger on one more piece. If you're interested in adding a Glycine to your collection, there is no better time than now. (I'm not affiliated with Ashford, just a customer.)

I've been interested in the Combat Sub 42 before, but worried it might be too big. After seeing Max's video, I'm reconsidering.

Probably Jomashop or Ashford. I'd say go look at it in person first if possible. I ordered one online and immediately returned once I actually put it on wrist. It wasn't for me.

I agree, bronze can be tricky. I think it depends on the watch as well as the shade of bronze. However, both Jomashop and Ashford have excellent return policies. I've not returned anything to Jomashop but I have to Ashford. No reason other than I didn't like the piece on the wrist. Ashford accepted the return with no problem.

I agree, this brand deserves much more respect than it receives.

There's 50 watchers on ebay for every used auction. 🤣🤣

I bought the GL0083 at Costco for $240 about three weeks ago. The Costco price tag had the “death star” on it, meaning they won’t be ordering more.

I love my GL0083. It’s averaging +3 sec/day, and with 22mm between the lugs, it goes great with so many straps.

An accurate 200M Swiss-made dive watch with a SW200 movement and sapphire crystal for $240! Why in the world would anyone buy a $400 Swatch instead?

·

I would love a Glycine just not prepared to pay the prices they charge for them in the UK.

I’ll call it the Scuba. Sounds better than SwatchPain, to me at least.

Thanks, what made you return? Size?

It wasn't the size, I just felt no attachment to it like I did with my other divers. If anything, I felt disappointment. The specs are good, looked good in blue, good price, but I didn't want it.

What divers do you like the most?

What divers do you like the most?

Pretty much all of them. I haven't gotten a chance to take them all diving, but they've all been in both Atlantic and Pacific oceans. I'd like to get a Seamaster once I get 100 dives, which will be awhile.

Love it, I want one🤤

The glycine prices are crazy to keep track of, especially when Ashford always has them on sale (I got an Airman from there and shipped to the UK - with the taxes). I actually have no idea how much a Combat Sub should ACTUALLY cost!

I know! Every time I look at Ashford I see another Glycine "I can't afford to pass up."
