Your next watch

What’s your next purchase going to be? After much internal debate, I’ve decided my next watch will be the Chilton by Haven Watch Co. — a brand (inexplicably) located in my city and started by an English professor at a small private university here. I was wondering if I wanted one just because they’re local, since (as every born-and-bred Midwesterner on here knows) there’s nothing Midwesterners love more than championing other Midwesterners — especially locals. But the fact is, this is the most unique chrono I’ve seen, and I also think it’s absolutely gorgeous. Apparently it’s also the first watch to use the new Sellita SW510M movement.
Here are the specs:

37.5MM width; 47mm lug-to-lug, 18mm lugs; 13.1mm thickness.

50 hour power reserve on the cotes-de-geneve striped SW510M.

Double AR coating on the curved sapphire crystal.

Tested to 3ATM, and -20˚ to 160˚F.

316L case with titanium caseback and movement holder.

What about you? What’s your next purchase going to be, and why?

I answered the same question a couple of weeks ago and stated that next and only buy would be a Rolex Sub. It didn’t go according to plan, but it is still my answer. Why?

I think that the Rolex Submariner is (one of) the most iconic watch design out there. The fact that Rolex abandoned the super case did it for me. It is of course not totally up to me. My AD has a say in this.

Sorry, boring but true answer.

Not boring at all! The Sub is a badass watch.

This looks like something Flula Borg would wear.

Is it just the angle of the light in the photo, or is the watch asymmetrical ? The left side looks wider than the right side, and it almost looks like the dial is "leaning".

·

I like The Chilton, cool 70 feel to it.

I have no idea what my next watch purchase will be I have a G-Shock GW6900 on route to me from Amazon and am waiting for shipping confirmation of the Beaufort watch I ordered.

I plan to sell about 6 or 7 of my cheaper watches over the next couple months and will use those proceeds to buy something a bit more upscale. However, I keep changing my mind on what that should will be. Earlier this week  was all about the Doxa 600T, before that the Squale 1521 but today neither seems exciting enough to cough up that much money. I want something that's a bit of a hidden gem in the under $2k (definitely under $3k) price range.

·

Not currently in the market but there's a few I'm interested in.

  • Merkur (don't know which one, they have so many cool models)
  • RZE Fortitude or Resolute
  • Citizen AQ4020-54Y
  • Armand Nicolet JH9 GMT

I didn’t notice until you said something about it, haha. I believe that’s just the shadow playing tricks.

“Hidden gem under $2k” is exactly why I settled on the Chilton.

And yeah, I think I may also unload at least a couple of watches that aren’t getting much wrist time to help pay for it.

·

Oooo man - now that watch is a looker! Lots of vintage charm to this with a great set of dimensions. I think this is going to be a helluva strap monster too. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it once you nab it!

I ordered a retro chrono just recently too - I’ll share some pics once I receive it! So, technically, I think my next watch which I haven’t ordered yet is the Nivada Grenchen Chronomaster… yes another chronograph. Guess it’s just my thing 😂

·

Nice choice sir. I got my eyes on oris diver sixty five chronograph, i think it is unique and not so many people own them. Since its a bit pricy for me im still saving up, but someday i'll definitely will buy it.

Check out Milus.  I'm extremely impressed with mine, one of the nicest watches I've owned (including GS, Omega, Rolex, etc).

Either the Black Bay 58 or the Cartier Santos for my birthday. Still on the fence. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Inspired by my recent purchase of a Bulova Accutron, I took a chance on an Armitron Griffy. 😂 I found it on Amazon for $35 and thought, "Why not? It's only $35." I know Armitron doesn't have exactly a stellar reputation, but I remember my dad having an Armitron LED in the late '70s along with his Computron. He was fascinated by digital watches when they hit the market, and he collected a few of them, including the two already mentioned, one of the nicer Texas Instruments models, a couple of Casios, and one of the Bond Seikos. Perhaps I was predispositioned to begin collecting watches seriously at some point in my life. 😀 I have owned and worn them since I was a kid (Santa used to give me and my brothers a new watch in our stocking each year beginning in about 1st grade or so and continuing into young adulthood).

I wasn’t familiar with that, so I looked up, and now I wish I hadn’t. 😂

I don’t need another watch crush!

Good looking watch - would love to see that thing on a old leather strap - just me?

My next purchase… not even God knows! I looking at 10-20 watchs 😂 I change my mind every week.

At this moment Zenith Defy Classic ceremic in blue. Looks like a expensive toywatch but I think its very cool. Rubber and ceramic, very modern.

Omg, will you please stop pushing Milus. I've already fallen pretty hard for the Snow star but I've forbidden myself from buying any more watches till the summer and you are not making it easy to stick to my promise 😆

(However, you should definitely post some picks of yours ❤️)

Work has been crazy the last 12 months and photography is one of the things that's fallen by the wayside.  I really want to get back into it, and I really want to do a full review of the Snow Star.  Most people have never heard of it, let alone handled one, and I think the brand needs some exposure.  They are an independent punching WELL above their weight, which is something I admire.

Long story short... I'm working on it!

My next purchase WAS going to be the 60's Bulova Accutron. There is a chap in the UK on eBay who does a lovely job renovating them so my plan was to get one from him later in the year. Its such an unusual watch with a lot of horological history.

HOWEVER, due to the enablers on this platform I've recently discovered the Milus Snow star which is now a strong contender with its history and beautiful finishing. I'll need to research it for a few months and if its still true love in the summer then I may pull the trigger.

They do include your choice of a couple of leather straps with each watch. I‘ll ask them to keep it, but I can definitely see myself picking up a faux* leather strap or two for it.

That’s a killer Zenith!

*I refuse to call it ”vegan leather.” 😂

I REALLY don’t need another watch, but probably a Seestern Sub300T V3, but I am struggling over which colour to choose between the teal blue or yellow.

Which colour did you go for? I've now found them for almost 40% off. I wish I would just stop looking because I really don't need to be buying another watch yet just a couple of weeks after my last one.... but 40% off!!

Took a look at their Super Compressor model, Archimedes. It is one sharp looking diver!

Either a dark green DW-5600 or a blue San Martin BB58 homage.

A green DW was the first watch I went scuba diving with. This was 30 years ago? 😬 The resin shroud has now given up, it broke apart completely when I cleaned it. I am toying with the idea of changing out the screws and wearing it with a 3rd party strap.

I am curious about San Martin. I heard a lot of positive things and my initial contact with the company has been a very good experience and I want to try their custom logo service. I really like the idea of trying to “design” a dial print. I never tried that before and I am also curious about the PT5000 movement.
