Accidentally. I bought affordable practical watches over the years. Became a collection when I recently started discovering them in various drawers and boxes around home. Now looking for nicer ones to add.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
Truly, I don't recall. I believe I had some sort of gift Timex as a child. I think I wore some sort of digital watch, probably Casio, in high school and college. I'm a nerdy engineer type and digital watches were pretty cool, cheap, functional, and accurate.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
My grandfather’s Lord Elgin, received for 35 years of service at the refinery where he worked, but was NOT his retirement. (See cover photo.)
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Get what you enjoy.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Scurfa, Nodus, Wolbrook, Seiko, Tissot, Laco. Seem to be discovering new micro brands all the time!
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
As a six year old, named Neil, when humans first landed on the moon, I consider myself a child of the Apollo space program. Omega Speedmaster moon watch has been an icon, but honestly won’t ever spend that much, so not really a grail watch.
Recently, any very cool microbrand that is out of stock seems to be the one I suddenly must have. 😉
