I am become Modder!

Some time ago, I discovered why I wasn't wearing my Seiko SNXS79 so often. The case back was just way too tall. The watch hovered above the wrist. Recently, I stumbled upon a YT video about modding the SNXS models. The guy in that video suggested replacing the back with one from an older Seiko 5 - if I recall correctly, from the 1980s to 1990s. Plenty of them shared the same case back, with identical threading...that fits the modern Seiko 5s with the 7S26 movement.

I laid off the idea for a while, and just yesterday I recalled I have a broken Seiko 5 from 1983 in my drawer. So, I transplanted the back and put on the gasket the SNXS already had... It fits and works. Did a submersion test in the sink...no leaks. It woooorks! Now that watch is so much more wearable. Replacing the back has shaved at least 1mm - more like 1.5mm, though -off of the SNXS79's thickness. I did my first Seiko mod😆

The result is amazing. The case back isn't pretty, I'll have to polish it up a bit. But I'm happy that I can enjoy this watch more than ever.

Just look at how slim and sleek it is now!

I've wanted to ditch the stupid rear window on my SNK for a while, hopefully slimming it a bit in the process. Apparently I can just order a new one from namokimods as I don't have applicable stuff lying around and am leery of ordering a beat up frankenwatch for parts.

I might replace this salvaged case back with a Namoki one. Seems like a good idea, after doing a bit of reading it seems like their SKX slim case back might fit the SNXS

I recently read that only certain case backs fit the SNXS79, and the SKX case back doesn't fit if I remember correctly. I would do some research before ordering a new replacement.

I think that concerns not as much the threading, as it does the height, and to be precise - the plastic spacer. I heard there are 3D printing patterns for these, and I happen to have a friend with a 3D printer.

Anyway, for now, I'm in no rush to change my current solution for making the SNXS comfortable to wear

I have Namoki Slim Casebacks on all my mods. Would recommend!

As a friend with a 3D printer and an incoming SNXS79, I'd be interested to hear of these spacer plans. Sounds like a mod I'd like to try.

There are 3D print files available on Thingiverse for various spacers for the Seiko 7009. Apparently they fit all the derivatives of it, the long line of which ends on the 7S26.

If I someday try using the Namoki case back, I'll let you know if it works, and if it'll needs a different spacer - what spacer it'll need.

Thanks. I'll look into it, and might give it a try. I'll post my results if I do.

Classic - Pure class!

Next you’ll be buying movements, cases, dials, and hands and building the whole thing from the ground up. It really is addicting.

I can't exclude that as a possibility.

I watched that vid about 3 times, it was entertaining and informative and the whole time I was second guessing letting my 77 go... Nice job on yours!
