So tell me about the Dekla. What was your experience? I kinda like what they are selling
I first became aware of Dekla when I was looking into deck watches. There isn’t much about them online, and the majority of people either seem to have one of their fliegers or the turbulenz (a “tactical” watch - not really my thing).
However, the deck watches caught my eye, particularly the version with a red 12.
Whilst I was looking into them, the one I now have (without red 12) came up on eBay, and it was too good to miss.
There are lots of customisation options on the website. Mine has onion crown, sterling silver dial and heat-blued steel hands.
The movement is a Unitas 6498 - as I understand it, essentially a handwound pocket watch movement, but in a wrist watch case. It is lovely to wind, and interesting to look at through the sapphire case back which extends across the whole of the back of the case. It has quite a noisy tick, but I quite like that.
My favourite aspect of the watch is the dial. The Stowa in the picture above has a milky white smooth dial (looking a bit like enamel). The Dekla is very different - it has a textured silvery-white dial. I also like the fact that it states the place of manufacture (Stuttgart) and “Hergestellt in Deutschland” on the dial.
Mine was pre-owned, but even new I think it is very good value for what it is. It gives you a look a bit like a Dornblüth & sohn, but for a lot less.
If there is a downside, you could say it’s the water resistance (5 bar) and the thickness of the case - it is fairly thick for a handwound. I also didn’t particularly like the light brown leather strap it came on (so I changed it).
