Rolex with price tags

Haven't seen this in a while... available, with price tags.

No steel sports yet. But that's all about to change according to the Rolex rep in the store.

Thanks for this Mike - I see you're in London, can you say where this was? I may be in the market in the next 12m and want to start laying chum at some non-game-playing ADs sooner rather than later.

·

Apart from a few hot items and the special editions, it's expected to see them being readily available soon. Personally, I also expect to see a lot of the precious metal ones being offered at a discount, who knows.

2023 is already way different than past years. I was offered a sub within 40 days.

·

I’m waiting on the white dial steel Daytona to get to list price with a 15 percent AD discount.

The more likely outcome may be that I grow a very long white beard or loose interest altogether :)

Winter is coming?

#recession ?

I have seen this when in the UK but nowhere else, yet. I believe to recall seeing in WoS annual report that in the UK people tend to spend a higher amount of their income on watches than elsewhere (Germany, US, etc.) So they probably get a good allocation overall and when you pair that with the squeeze which seems to be particularly tight for people over there... I might be wrong though 😄

So I'd rather not give out my location (it's my local AD). But what I will say is that the store is a Mappin & Webb store (part of the watches in Switzerland group) and all of their stores tend to tow the same line with their client messaging. So fingers crossed over the next few months.

Lol...best of luck with that 😂

I'm not sure about that. Maybe 🤔

I'd say places like the USA, China and India would get a higher allocation of watches than the UK. I'm guessing though.

The squeeze in the UK is not that much worse than in other parts of Europe (all things considered). To counter, wages are rising at there fastest rate in over a three decades (which is both good and bad). Who knows though, that's all speculation and conjecture at the best of times.

Watches in windows could be partially due to above, but I think also has a lot to do with the hype behind Rolex softening, Rolex supply chain issues easing and people choosing to put there money elsewhere this time of year i.e. summer holidays and houses (renovations) in Europe. The summer months are traditionally a much quieter period for luxury sales as well. Let's see what the picture looks like as Europe and the USA heads into Autumn and Christmas.

·

Well, winter is a great time for sale of luxury goods. Spring and summer is the slowest time of year as people tend to invest in their homes and spend money on vacationa and travel.

If you mean "winter is coming" in a rhetorical sense. Well, if you look at historical Rolex prices over the years (including sales volumes/prices through recessions and financial crisis), there has never been a better/cheaper time to buy a Rolex than right now.

·

Cos they are the more expensive Rolexes that ADs want you to get. These have typically been easier to get, even in times of “scarcity”.

·

Why reward a brand that creates artificial scarcity and is complicit sustaining bad practices among ADs generally speaking (AD your referencing excluded)? I’m not a populist so how one spends money is none of my concern and I can’t say anything bad about the watches. I tried to pick up an Oyster Perpetual and told something like - no inventory and probably a marked up price. My response — your making that up and no thanks.

·

Boring 🥱

·

Have you heard of The Stripper Index “If Vegas girls aren’t making money, no one’s making money.” 🤣

I care more about them than Rolex…and I am not a Financial Advisor or providing financial advice.

Yeah, in absolute numbers the UK won't get as many as China or the US but per capita they might. There's a lot of ADs on that island. That's the data I was talking about.

People seem to be buying watches more than elsewhere. 😉 but they don't don't make more money than elsewhere... quite the opposite in fact.

Source pls? I would love to read the report.

·

I saw something similar in Vegas. A Rolex AD had date just models available for purchase. Meaning buy and walk out with it. Good times are coming back.

You mean the WoS annual report. It's linked under the "data" thing.

·

Nope. I don’t think it’s a conspiracy for Rolex. It’s an intentional decision to slow down manufacturing and delivery plus steer allocations to fewer distributors. Profits and exclusivity have gone way up. Happens elsewhere but Blanton’s and Buffalo Trace bourbons come to mind immediately.

Rolex are increasing production and are in the process of building a new factory. So, I don't think this really stacks up either

·

Can you send the web link to the article where you got this from? I'd be interested in reading the context

I guess we disagree.

·

Never actually seen a dealer place price tags on the window display before

·

The only Rolex AD in Seattle, Ben Bridge, does not expect to have allocation “this year”. Meaning, if you aren’t already a customer and spent money on jewelry items in their stores, you aren’t getting one.

·

They have price here in Calgary I believe

·

Sorry to hear that, I have a friend in NYC and she said things are getting a little better there. I mean, things are a little better in the US at the moment (compared to the UK), with inflation at 2% over there I believe, right? I think demand has softened slightly over here...could be wrong though.

·

Respectfully 😅. I mean, in not saying that I know I'm right lol. It's all speculation isn't it?

·

I think that's fair. Sorry, talking about Rolex is a little tedious isn't it!? 😅 I usually refrain from doing so...but seeing price tags hanging on watches in a Rolex AD is like spotting a rare bird 🐦

Yep. Winter is coming. Be able to walk in and buy almost anything you want straight away by Xmas.
