$5000 Watch Collection - What Would You Choose?

I just entered a raffle on Teddy Baldassare’s website to win $5,000 worth of watches off his site. In doing so, they ask you to submit the watches you would choose.

I actually had a surprisingly hard time with this… Firstly, he doesn’t carry every brand, so Tudor and Omega are out. He also does not carry every watch offered by the brands that he is authorized with.

I found myself contemplating a number of cheap watches that I would otherwise no buy - like an all gold PRX. Or, it could be tempting to just choose a base Grand Seiko for $4800.

In the end, I think I picked a pretty well rounded collection. I’ve been eyeing up the Hamilton, but there are other watches I would buy first. The Tissot I plan to buy for my next watch, and I think it would be the perfect daily for me. The G-Shock I also plan to buy in the near future; it would be the perfect watch for construction projects that I have coming up. Lastly, the Longines would be for my wife as she is beginning her watch journey.

I’m curious to see what others would pick. Please provide links to your choices!

Personally I'd have spent the lot on one watch that I'd otherwise not be able to afford.

·

For 5000 I would go for max 2 watches, possibly from longines oris and grand seiko, for cheaper alternatives hamilton and sinn

·

Does he stock the Casio f91w? Thinking of stocking up before it's discontinued 😋

·

Check Worn & Wound, this is a regular post where people suggest a three watch collection for $5000. There are some good watches in there!

·

I would probably just go for a grand seiko or one of these selections for $4950 or $4999

I thought about this. But ultimately the Grand Seiko for $4800 isn’t the Grand Seiko that I would ultimately want.

Teddy doesn’t sell Sinn on his site. Hamilton would be a great option, but I already have a few in my collection and ultimately I’d rather the Tissot as a daily than a Khaki field. I looked at the Grand Seikos, but the cheapest on his site is $4800, so that would give me only one watch.

Don’t think so. He sells G-Shocks but I don’t think he has normal Casio

hmm oris-longines or oris-formex combination maybe, you can buy a tissot anytime

I know that this is a commonly discussed topic. But my post is specifically about the $5000 raffle on Teddy’s website. Therefore it’s not necessarily a question of what watch(es) would you buy for $5000. Rather, my question is what watch(es) would you buy for $5000 specifically off of Teddy’s website… he doesn’t sell all brands, nor does he sell every model from the brands that he does carry. So that makes the question a bit more tricky.

All great choices!

Very nice! But you still have ~$1250 and can squeeze a third in there.

definitely. Haha. I realised that and added a Panova.

Very true. I guess I figured that I can get a watch that I wanted to buy anyway for free.

If I had $5,000 to drop, I would personally hold off and buy a 36mm OP. Such a good versatile watch that will be with you forever.

·

Good luck with the raffle. I’d blow it all on a GS.

You definitely aren’t wrong. But this is a different type of $5000 watch collection post, as I stated originally and in a few comments.

In this case, you would be winning $5000 worth of watches that you need to choose off of Teddy Baldassare’s website. He does not carry Rolex, so an Oyster Perpetual would not work.

I really thought about it. But the entry level GSs that he has available for $4800 aren’t the GS that I would buy. So I feel like I would get them just to sell down the road to get something else. On the other hand, the four I’ve chosen are all watches that I plan to buy at some point so I would wear them… and give the Longines to the wife of course.

I'm not good at math(s). Grand Seiko SBGA429. Done.

·

I’d use the money towards one watch. A GS Snowflake or a Zenith Chronomaster Sport.

That’s a good idea, but I don’t think that’s how the raffle works. I don’t think you can put the 5 grand towards a more expensive watch, otherwise I would choose a Snowflake too

You sure? I thought you just get $5 to spend in his shop. If that’s the case, I’d get something for close to $5k, return it for a credit and get the GS, lol. I bet you could finagle it for something more expensive. It’s probably all the same to him.

I suppose so. All I know is that to enter you need to specify the watch(es) you would buy, and they have to total no more than $5k

Interesting as that's not what it says on his website where you would enter. Quote:

"Here is how to enter, no purchase is necessary!

Visit our online store and browse some of our exciting new brands and watches in the shop. Come up with your dream watch collection from our shop, then share them with us via the submission form below between Dec 1, 2023, to Feb 16, 2024. We will pick a winner at random and hopefully help kickstart your watch-collecting journey!"

Doesn't say anything about staying under $5K. Just says "come up with your dream watch collection" so I just picked the 8 coolest watches I saw on his site.

Ooohhh! That changes the equation for sure. In that case my picks would be:

Longines Spirit 37 w/ bracelet - $2,500

Nomos Tangente 35 - $2,100

Both timeless watches with great personality and amazing build quality!

You’re right, it doesn’t specify. I’m just assuming based on how he describes the raffle entry process in his video

I’m suing if I win and he doesn’t give me 5k off the snowflake. J/k. 😂
