I Failed

There’s a challenge floating around the watch community: pick one watch, and only one watch, out of your collection to wear for 30 days straight.

I failed on day 1…

I will never be able to slim my collection down to one watch, it’s impossible. I’ve got too many pieces that mean a lot to me, from heirloom watches to historical pieces. But when I heard about this 30 day challenge I decided to take a crack at it.

If I could wear only one watch from my collection, it would be my Seamaster, so that’s what I decided to wear Saturday morning to start the challenge. I failed pretty quickly, because I had to go work on one of my cars, and for that I wear an old Seiko that belonged to my dad. Then, I went to work my part-time job at a restaurant owned by a high school buddy. At the restaurant I wear either my F91-W or my F105. The reality is I would never subject my Seamaster to wrenching on cars or the dirty plates and hand washes while working in a restaurant. So why not pick either Casio or the Seiko to wear every day instead? The bracelet on the Seiko isn’t the most comfortable, but it’s more durable than the leather strap I used for a while. I wouldn’t choose the Casios simply because I don’t love them. They’re cool, sure, and super functional, but they don’t captivate me like the Seamaster does.

I decided to start again yesterday. On went the Seamaster. But all of a sudden I got a call from someone to pick up some machining equipment that I am selling, and I also needed to take a run to the town dump. So the Omega was replaced with the Seiko yet again. My wife and I then went to diner last night with a friend and his wife. This particular friend recently gave me an Omega De Ville which I had serviced and I changed the strap. So I wore the De Ville to share my appreciation for it with my friend.

I don’t think this one watch challenge is for me 😂

Its OK to fail. For every watch challenge you fail, there are dozens of supportive crunchers who also didn't make challenge. Seek solace there, it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling you will never get doing a challenge 🤣😄

Agreed! I failed and I’m totally okay with it 🤣

·

I totally missed this challenge! Is this an official WC thing, or just self-imposed hardship?

·

Try 90 days straight with the same watch

·

There’s just something about dogs and SMP #divewatch’s

Your GMT variant is incredible!

·

That’s ok, you got one day further than I did😂

·

I usually get about 10 days then feel the need to switch

·

That’s fine! You can start all iver again 😊In recent years the longest time I wore a single watch was only 2 weeks. Its was much stress and less enjoyable so I went back wearing my other watches. 😊

·

This "challenge" doesn't interest me at all. I appreciate the variety of styles, colors and types of watches. There is just so much out there.

·

That's too hard man. When you don't have a watch yet, then it's possible

·

I wish I could wear one for 30 days straight. If I didn't have to throw on the smart watch for some time each day, I'd wear either my Seiko or Orient for an easy 30 days.

·

@Mike199 , I totally feel you, thats why I cant take the challenge, don't think I've ever worn 1 watch for 30 days in the past 10-15 years, although it was before my collecting time 😅, and when i start collecting I've never worn 1 watch for even 1 week

·

I would not even try. I fail at too many things already.

·

My Traska Summiteer 36 or my Sinn556 IB could be my only watches. And I mostly don't do things to bang them up but even if I do, they are tools.

I usually wear one of these two for weekends.

·

I could definitely see myself wearing my meteorite Pepsi every day. In fact, during the first month I owned it, that's almost what I did. The only reason I switched it up was to add some variety to my "What Are You Wearing" posts.

Realistically, I'd wear it constantly, only swapping it out briefly—maybe for just 20 minutes—to snap some photos for different watches, and then it would be right back on my wrist.😆🤪🔥🔥❤️💙🤍

10 days is a good run

Agreed. It’s more fun to switch

I think the challenge only applies to those who have a certain number of watches or more. That’s what makes it a challenge

I did wear my Seamaster nearly everyday for the first two months after I bought it. The issue is I have various jobs/hobbies that cause me to pick different watches

I bought the white dial Omega SMP a few summers ago because I was with a friend from another city wanted to visit my preferred multi brand ad, spent hours checking out the inventory but obviously had no intention to buy a watch, I was embarrassed so I decided to finally add a SMP to my rotation. It is ok but I have never really embraced the design, especially the 9 link bracelet. I know from experience that a watch will grow in appreciation if you just wear it daily but I have rarely had the watch on more than a few hours before I switch if it is convenient. Recently decided to switch to an Omega OEM mesh bracelet, huge improvement imo, I now wear the watch an entire day with joy.

I enjoyed the factory bracelet on mine, but I just love the look of the leather strap. The white dials are nice too, but this black dial captivated me

Challenge not accepted. I have no interest in watch monogamy 😁😉

Agreed

We got our Golden almost 2 years ago and she’s completely ruined every other dog breed for me. Goldens or nothing for me for the rest of my life lol.

Yup! Goldens are the best. Tucker is 2.5 and he’s our 4th golden. I’ll always have a golden til the day I die.

I am thinking of doing the #1wc. I am in the posting the prerequisite 12 watches and the more I think about the harder the decision on which watch to use is starting to stress me a bit.

It’s less stressful to just change them often 😂

·

Sounds like you had a lot of fun with it tho mate. Way to go!

Of course. If it’s not fun then it’s not worth pursuing as a hobby

I’m with you. I won’t even try this bogus challenge!

That GMT is near perfect, besides a slippery bezel. I love that watch.

As far as one watch I too have some sentimental pieces, but honestly my day changes from work, to being outside, to social or formal way too much to make it with one watch. One watch would be inappropriate for my lifestyle. Seriously.

Agreed. I couldn’t do just one… maybe last year, but my lifestyle has changed a bit

I could not agree more. And looking at some of the pre-released games rules, I am not sure. I mean wearing a watch on your no-normal wrist? How does one make it through the day doing that?

Agreed. I don’t mind banging up my Omega a bit. But certain jobs just aren’t appropriate to wear such a watch in my opinion.

Oh I didn’t read all the rules… forget that!

Absolutely, I do the same- occasionally. If I think my watch might get damaged, like during rough activities, I switch to my Black Bay Ceramic for its durability. It’s all about the right watch for the right situation! Cheers!

When I was a one watch guy, whether it was the period of time where that was a Seiko (twice), a Rolex (twice) or a Luminox, I wore those watches for absolutely everything. From 1985-2010.
