Why 5-digit was the BEST generation for Rolex

For many years I really didn't care for the sub, you see it everywhere and I just thought it was played out. That was until I handled a 14060, something about that watch was just right. It was the perfect blend of vintage with modern. So there's a video tribute to the 5 digit sub and why I think this is the everyday diver I've been searching for.

Okay...  look, every single video that you post, I'm on the lookout for some double-entendre or some otherwise juvenile shenanigans as "easter egg."

I'm, literally, 2 seconds into the video, and there you are resting your hand by your junk, and effectively giving everyone a crotch shot.  Is that this week's video's easter egg???

Every video seems to have a Omeganut Easter egg. You are featured just a few seconds after crotch shot 😉

All @Omeganut , all of the time.  Where is the dark, edgy @Aurelian content?

(No one liked this one. I did, so I will recycle it. Recycling, for the planet.  We have only 12 more years to live according to the angry teenager.  That means that today's watches will not get old enough to be vintage in the future dystopian hellscape.)

Edit:  My official first time referring to myself in the third person.  @Aurelian approves.

I'll make sure you make it into any and all Richard Mille reviews in the future 😋

Sure, I will let you borrow one of my eight Richard Milles for the review. He insists that I call him "Rich" with the "i" sounding like an "e" in that annoying French way.  I insist that he calls me "Aurelian" even though that is not my name.  I don't want him getting too familiar...you know where that leads...double entendre and crotch shots.

Nice homage to the Sub! Love that you decided to go dateless. I was a bit amused when you seriously said, that a friction bezel from the 80s can cause a sever problem while diving. As if somebody would use it for that XD

I am not a fan of divers as I am a fan of less bezel more dial. That being said my diver has a rehaut, it’s a JLC Polaris Automatic in blue.

I don't know about Easter Egg, that would imply something sweet. I would say more like meat and two veg. I think I'll have to become a vegetarian now 🤮

great review Max. A really clean watch with lots of graceful ageing to come. Here’s my Tudor sub - very similar vibes

Don't have to tell me twice; I don't think I've ever seen a 6-digit that I really liked.

·

I have only one personal curiosity @Max - what happens now to your 'perfect' BB58 Silver with the Submariner 14060 now in the collection?

It was never perfect 😉. That was the point. It's gone. I have a problem

At least you have found a way to monetize this problem.

Thanks ! Don’t see it around often. decided to get this over the ceramic Rolex sub, v happy I did it

I think overall the watch is nice, but probably not for me. I want my lume to work. I also prefer the maxi dial markers, BUT and it's a big one (baby got back), I don't like the ceramic bezel insert. I would much prefer the aluminum bezel. It's just too flashy with the ceramic and feels less like a tool watch. I suppose that's why I like so many more Tudor models than Rolex models. They tend to go with aluminum bezels, and even in the case of the Pelagos a more flat ceramic. All that being said, I'd probably get weak in the knees if the 2018+ red text Sea Dweller were available at a decent price. I don't know what it is about the red text on old Subs or the new Sea Dweller, but it really does it for me. I'd probably forgive the ceramic bezel if they put the red text on the current Sub.

Great video, Max. Vintage is something I aspire towards but man, I'm nervous about it.

I think if you have a problem - we all do mate, we all do. And that's why we have WatchCrunch! 😂

This vid encapsulates my view of Submariners exactly. I can’t warm to the new ones. I bought a 1967 5512 no date last year and it is superb but I agree I get a little nervous when I wear it.
