Timex X Heuer got me twisted

When I saw the Heuer 60th anniversary watch, I knew it was special, maybe grail status.

But then I saw the new Timex Marlin Chrono, and I had a double take...I don't even know what to think anymore.

So I decided we just look at watch porn and pontificate gratuitously... Does the perfect watch exist?

I hardly noticed the timex at all, the Carrera is fantabulous! I'm happy TG decided to use the "Cigarette" vintage style hands on this piece.

·

Great vid and loved how you showcased two different price points. I have one Tag chrono already, but really hoping to add an Autavia chrono soon.

Carrera, Monaco, Autavia... what an iconic trio

I like how Timex took inspiration and went a bit different, rather than a straight copy with this one. It isn’t trying to be a Carrera, but is nodding its head.

I love that Tag - but after seeing the Glassbox’s, all older-style Carreras just fall flat for me. If they do an anniversary-style Glassbox, it’ll be killer.

I need to see the glass box in person. Love the design but I wonder if I'd be afraid of shattering all that sapphire 😅

Cool, thought--provoking video, Max. Love the Heuer, and actually like the Timex. As far as homáges go, this sorta reminds me of my Seiko SUS chronograph from the late 90s, which nicely echoes my late, lost and much-lamented Omega Speedy Pro from the late 1980s, and, frankly, I think Seiko did a scary-good job...to the point that I wish they'd bring it back. (I found this one late last year.)

Love the Tag vintage chronos. The fact they're bringing them back makes me hopeful. I'm more of a dive watch guy but these are an exception.

I also love what Timex is up to. That said, curious why you haven't covered Dan Henry? I feel they're a bit more on the nose with their designs. I modded my 1964 to look more "vintage" with black and white hand sets:

It's a good question. I guess his watches are so close to the originals it kind of rubs me the wrong way...

·

that timex and that pricetag is hard to resist 😂

For sure, Dan Henry is not aiming to be subtle about what inspires his watches, but same can be said for Timex. To be fair the Timex Q collection is more self-inspired than borrowed. I still prefer a no-date chrono though.

Timex has been hitting out of the park looks wise of late!

The glass box is a beauty! I was close to buying it until the sales rep said to look at it under a loupe. Looking under a loupe was the worst thing I did. 😂😂😂 saw brown corrosion on the 6 o clock sub dial. If you zoom in, you can see it in the pic.

The Carrera 60th is so good, I totally screwed up and missed a chance to get one.

Now they are all sold out and once in a while one will pop up on Chrono24 asking way over retail but they had them available on the website for a few hours and I randomly saw it one Saturday night and thought wow I love that I'm gonna buy it, but it was late at night and I had a a few beers in me and I thought better to sleep on it and buy it when I wake up...

A few hours later I wake up, and think oh shit I better buy that watch, I go on the website to pull the trigger and it's no longer available to add to cart and check out, it was gone. Turns out they had only put a few on the website, the rest went to TAG boutiques and sold out instantly.

·

Thanks Max for showing some more spot light on this well deserved piece 👏🏻

I missed out too when they first came out , so I had to just pay the extra when at the time Chrono24 had about 8pcs was in a rush to get it as it’s such a good piece I don’t think you’ll be able finding much of them available later on down the line. Strike now Bro

Smart move that watch is a stunner I still dream about getting one.. I just couldn't justify paying a couple grand above retail, especially when the same watch in the other colors they made like the green and red are selling way below retail... But I really really want to get one some day.

Im a Rolex man, and I have a few, but TAG makes some awesome chronos, the rest of their watches suck IMO, but they are excellent on certain chronograph models and that 02 chrono movement is very very nice. Have you seen that new Monaco Night Driver edition? They just released it and it has the 02 movement, limited to 600 pieces and it's so awesome, I like it better than the Dark Lord... Guarantee that one will be gone soon

Unfortunately I can't get any watches right now, I already bought a two tone Datejust 41 at the AD this year and I've been spending like crazy setting up a new shop fory business, but that watch is smokin

💯agree! With the tag situation at the moment , Heuer had always been known for there racing history , so the chronographs of the new glass box Carreras and of course the Monaco are iconic, I love the Steve McQueen original Monaco but it’s too big for my skinny wrist.

Yeah can’t go wrong with any Rolex, though I’m looking for a Tudor for my next target, but same again for me~ no more watches till next year .
