It took me 3 years to understand this Cartier...

For 3 years, I did not like the Santos, I talk about those reasons in this video. But I recently changed my mind... Have you ever come around to a watch you didn't like on first meeting?

I'm slowly getting there with the tank actually, hated it to start, slowly starting to like it

·

Same here. I think I will go vintage in the end. Or quartz. Or... Oh, I don't know, stop bugging me!

·

I didnt like Explorer 2 or Panorai at the start, now they are on the top of my lists

Haha, take your time buddy 😂

·

You can tank anything 😉

Love the honesty of the video and that you came around to the Santos, especially the medium. Do you wear yours tight and if so, do you find it a little sharp? There are days I notices it, but on most days it is very comfortable. For the world's first sports watch, it does wear dressy, so I do not get to wear it as much as I want, but fall is upon us, so that will likely change when long sleeves come out.

·

Yes a Bullhead , I want a Santos too I love the Roman numbers and the traintrack. I'm a sucker for them 🤣. Only a matter of time before I acquire one.

I tend to wear watches tighter, agree that it leaves an imprint, but not as bad as some others

The Cartier Santos is such a special timepiece in my life that I am happy to own 3 different iterations, perhaps erred when I decided to buy the latest model with the blue dial instead of remaining iconic and the white. I intend to commit another mistake when I visit my ad to order the black PVD model. I have always considered a gold tank to be perfect except for the small case size, a Tank XL with an in house mechanical movement will perhaps conclude my decades long love affair with Cartier that started when my older brother returned home with a two tone Santos circa 80s paid for with his first pay checks working as a grunt designer architect. His widow wears that watch most days now which I still consider to be the iconic Santos with the square bezel. I agree the latest bezel flows into the bracelet but to me the bezel should be square. I continue to buy and enjoy watches of different price points but the Cartier Santos is priceless!

Great video as I think this topic rings true to most of us watch nuts. Cartier is the very same brand that I too at first was not a fan of. Maybe it is marketing, but I don't think so. I think it is the classic nature of these watches. Looking back in time little has changed and they have appeared on so many iconic people. I am now fascinated with the brand and I hope to own one soon. Until then, we shall see if they continue to hold a special place in my heart.

Royal Oak is the biggest 180 I’ve ever done on a watch. Didn’t get it at first but really like it now.

It's a fantastic watch in the metal

The Santos de Cartier (XL) was my second luxury purchase, made in 2021. Due to its more dressy nature, and my not too dressy lifestyle, it often got overlooked as I added other watches to the collection; but it is a watch that is always on my mind and one I always want to find an opportunity to wear. It is a watch I would recommend to anyone.

A man of good taste 🤝

·

Watched your vid. Nice one. One of my next watches to acquire anyway.

·

You're right, Max. The shiny bezel of the Santos holds me back too. And I looked into the Tank Must, the Dumont. Yet neither Tank nor Dumont gives me the feeling of a mechanical, sporty and elegant (yet leisurely vibes). And with my 14.5cm wrist, the Santos just sits right.

The Santos is on my Graduation Watch wishlist. Compared to the Rolex Palm Dial DJ, Santos feels just right: Not too flashy, suitable for my future career in offices, has the prestige (and pride), a great history, both elegant and sporty. If I finally get my Fellowship Scholarship for my Master's, I'll engrave "I did it" on the caseback.

Man...... the dream. Yet, I still can't get over how much the bezel gonna scratch up 😭

So like my Master's results, Santos gonna have to wait.

Honestly I'm still enamoured with other tank style watches more than the tank, give me an Oris Rectangular any day (might be a hot take, I know)

Now you made me grab my santos with the flawed date window today …. 😜. Thanks for the plug Max

·

Santos is definitely on my radar

·

Way back when - in the 70s, I discovered the santos. I fell in love w the aesthetic. That was when 2-tone was the new “thing” in the watch world. For years it was my grail. Years later - in the 80s, I acquired one. Loved it, wore it always & was proud of it for years. Don’t wear it much these days but every time I open my watch box I admire it & put it on far a while to rekindle the love. I feel it’s a bit small for me now but it’s so iconic. Remember, it was one of the 1st steel & gold integrated bracelet sports watches that started the trend as well as marketing genius for Cartier.

As a Santos Medium Owner, I couldn't agree more with the sentiments of this video. I also think part of the 'scratches on polished surfaces' concern about the Santos is because the bracelet is so comfortable. I often forget I have it on!

So campy I love it. 2 tone is coming back!

·

I’m about to buy a large santos after two years of thinking Cartier just isn’t for me…it’s a curse.

This video was one of the reasons why I pulled the trigger on a Cartier Santos. I love the form factor of the watch but the buckle on the bracelet has a gap. I asked my rep at Cartier and they said it was perfectly normal.

Is anyone else experiencing this on the buckle?

Thanks! Yes, mine's like that too

·

Good to hear it's normal. I can finally enjoy wearing it now. Haha 😂
