I got this vintage omega watch on eBay for a really good price at auction. It was sold as broken and not running, so my fingers started itching and I couldn’t resist.
After it arrived i realised it could not be wound so I started disassembling it with the assumption of the mainspring being broken. And indeed it was!
After cleaning the beautiful Omega 601 movement looked like this:
All other parts seemed to be in great shape so I didn’t need much. Bought a new mainspring and fit it in. And after the assembly and oiling it immediately started running again at around +2 sec/day! The dial has some patina but that just adds to the charm and story.
What an amazing find and project. Polished the crystal and case a little bit and bought a new strap.
I really like the looks of it and am proud of now owning my first Omega 😍
Do you have vintage omegas? They are just so pretty!🤩

I sent a picture to my dad who is also a watch collecter and he sent me this:
“Looks almost as good as mine”
Old show off 🙄😂

Thanks! After three years of irregular hobby practicing, I’m confident enough to handle these 😋😅
I liked that you took a risk and repaired it yourself. Respect. I have done the same. Looks great on your wrist.
