Rules are made to be broken. Right?

So like I assume a few people I had a few rules for buying a watch to give myself some limits on what I’d buy and I’ve now broken all of them. The first rule I had and broke was quite naturally the one I was least serious about: only buy watches with a date complication. I broke this rule last year with my purchase of the Clemence Photic Diver, which has a truly fantastic dial and now I’ve got three watches without a date.

Image

The next rule I broke was to only buy a watch with a bracelet. This was broken with the purchase of my Victorinox Inox Pro Diver and now I’ve got 2 of them.

Image

Then it was my most important rule. Don’t spend €1000 or more on a watch untill my kids are out of the break everything Stace. Now that might have happened but I think my 3yr old is still in that phase and my Farer, which was purchased this month is over a thousand euros.

My last rule was broken last night with the pre-order of a Studio Underdog Goofy Panda, and the Malm Heritage J29 Tunnan.

Image

My rule was to only buy watches with a wr greater than 100m, and both of these have a wr of 50m.

This was probably bound to happen considering my lack of self control but I was just curious if other people made rules for their watch collecting and if they’ve kept to them.

Great fun. Nice work breaking your rules!

WatchCrunch was created for the disciplined watch curator, no exceptions. All in favor of revoking Matt’s membership for allowing his love for watches to get the best of him and thus run amok duly say “I”. Anyone…anyone….??? 😂😂😂🤙

The Victorinox diver is gorgeous

·

rules are definitely there to be broken. and you made some good choices.

I'm trying hard to only buy watches without a date and also under 1000€. we'll i keep buying watches with dates and maybe i even payed over 1000€ for one of them. it was a sin(n). 😊

Thank you I don’t regret it at all.

·

No rules here, but I know certain types of watch won't join the collection because I don't like them, so there's no need for those rules

The humour you get here is one of the things I love about this forum. Let me know if I have to redeem myself.

Thanks because of the titanium case it’s also really comfortable despite the size.

Probably a better way of looking at things. That’s how I’m going to be doing things from now.

Rules are made to be broken. Buy and wear your happiness on your wrist.

Sorry don’t really get this one as I’m not sure what labor day is.

Labor Day is a holiday at the end of the summer....lol

·

That’s all the proof that I need. I shall continue to break them.

The Farer is very nice, I’d advise against getting the bracelet they offer as that feels a little cheap and is a nightmare to adjust, but the watch itself is good and the rubber strap it came with is fine.

Just received the order confirmation. No bracelet, switched the orange rubber to this combo

That looks great I’ll have to try a brown strap on mine.

This is one of their own that fits this watch specifically. It is called the Brown Horween AC Strap.

Thanks I’ll look into that it definitely looks better than the orange rubber one.

Happens mate. As long as you love them and actually wear them, I’ll argue it’s worth the decisions. Enjoy in good health!

I agree completely thanks mate.

Rules...? Nah, nah, they never stand a chance! Why bother? 😂

I’m slowly coming to the same conclusion. It’s taken a while but still better late than never. 😉

I'd say go with your gut feel. If it feels good and don't have an ounce of hesitation or uncertainty, go for it. Now if you have the slightest feeling of negative vibe whatsoever, either delay the purchase or forego it altogether. You don't need that extra baggage weighing down on you. 😉

Truer words have not been said. Thanks mate.

Some my original rules that quickly went to the wayside:

  1. Must have date (no longer care)

  2. Must have lume (no longer care)

  3. Under $500 (At the moment, I have none)

There are probably more I abandoned so long ago I can't even remember them.

Those sound a lot like my rules. Well done for not breaking the cost one as that’s the most important one ☝️.

My point was, I broke all of them and more.

So you’re in the same boat as the rest of us 👍. I’m seeing my rules as more like guidelines now, where I try to stay close to them but don’t worry too much if I step over the line.
