So I bought a box for my watches…

But now I’m struggling to think of how to fill my last spot… do you guys work to a number for your collection? I.e. I have 8 spaces in my box so I need 8 watches, or do you keep it more fluid? There’s some OCD part of me that just thinks it’s wrong to have a blank spot, but the added pressure of knowing this is the last spot has made me much pickier! Does your collection grow / shrink in size? Or do you have a number and stick to it?

P.s. I know there’s a DW in there… my fiancé knew I was into watches so she bought it for me as a present, and now I’m torn as to whether I should keep it as it’s really not my vibe 🥴

Don't rush to fill up a slot, it happens a lot sooner than you think.

If you want to cap it at 8, maybe save the empty slot for something special or a larger purchase.

If your fiancé got you that watch you should keep it out and always show it. She'll see that you appreciate it and not feel like you don't care about it (Wife got me a MVMT for xmas).

Also, I fell into the trap of filling holes in my watch box because I didn't like to see them. I have a few watches that I like but don't necessarily love because of it. I keep it fluid but don't ever see myself selling any so i'm doomed to an ever growing collection.

Sounds sensible, maybe I need to find a semi-realistic grail and work towards finding/affording that instead

Appreciate the tips there, she’s already made some comments that I don’t wear it s much as the others 😅

But yeah I think waiting and not rushing to fill the hole sounds like the right idea

I work until the watch box is full then I buy a bigger box 😂

It's all individual & fluid.

I got bit by the watch bug & to justify it, I felt like I needed to have a theme. 22 watches in a year (plus 2 additional watch boxes) & I ended up with more criteria to fill than I did when I began.

I began focusing on my Grail; a Speedy bought new from an AD because I never think about selling & that one watch would be quite a chunk of my salary.

Now I'm even questioning that.

I even decided upon a maximum of one watch per year.

I keep my display watch box full so I don't see an open slot.

So no, I don't collect to a number. I collect things I find interesting in my budget within a budgetary limitation.

You, friend, are going to need a bigger box.

·

It's always good to leave an available seat at the table.

Do I spy a Pogue in there?

LOL I will jump on the "not a marriage counselor" train, anytime you go out with her on a weekend and there is a sit down dinner of any kind involved, wear it... or simply explain upfront and honestly that you dont really like it and explain what you DO like.. which is what I did with my Lady but we are bluntly honest with one another and I know not everyone's relationships work like that.

Best advice of all. No time for exit watches just yet!

Love the seikos! If you're going that trend you can always get your first Seiko diver (SPB143 and friends is a lovely vintage styled series) to complete the box! :-)

Interesting you say that, I had been looking at the SPB297 but I’m not sure I’m convinced yet on it… might try and find one in person to try it on first

There is a saying I heard in database design once, but I can’t see to locate the source now. Nevertheless, it goes like this:

No matter the storage capacity of a data container - you will fill it.

I’ve found this to be true of filing cabinets, trash cans, databases, hard drives, closets, and even watch boxes, among many other containers. Your question is your answer. The fact that you are proposing the question tells us that you are entertaining getting another watch to fill that spot.

I would recommend caution and patience. When we see that slot in the watch case, we perceive it as an “empty slot.” If I were you, knowing what I know today, I would say, fine something to put in that slot that is not a watch, and then wait for the right time to buy the watch you really want, and then put it in that spot. Just don’t go trying to fill it arbitrarily.

But, that’s just my .02.

Seiko arnie 👍

You could buy a single watchbox for the DW because it's so special to you 🤪 And hide it well so nobody steals it 👍

·

Take a picture of your grail watch and then tape it to the empty pillow. Then fill it with that watch when you acquire it. However long that takes.

This is a great idea… ‘the watch is so important to me that it deserves its own box’ 🤣🤣 it also frees up another spot in the box 👀

Seiko arnie 👍

I don’t think I have the wrist size to pull that bad boy off unfortunately. If a baby arnie exists out there somewhere though that would be pretty cool

I've only got 6.5inch wrists and it fits me just fine, it's surprising really, the straps quite long though, looks ace with a nato strap 👍

Well, I bought a 12 slots watch box to keep my watches when I had only 8 watches but then I ended up filling all the slots. My girlfriend got me 6 slots box a few days after I got one for myself without knowing that I had one already. Now I have an empty 6 slots box with a list of watches I intend to fill it up with 😅

I still keep my two older watches which need service in the drawer and the box is only for the watches I wear. If it triggers your OCD, get some inexpensive Casio and fill it up for now until you get the watch you wanted to add.

As someone suggested, go for a 62mas which is very versatile and also will work with your smaller wrist. The Seiko Tuna comes in variety of sizes and variation in automatic as well as solar, could be a nice fit too if you like the Arnie.
