Week number

Hi guys, Do you any automatic watches that display the week number? Not the date, the month, but the ISO week number from 1 to 53. It is commonly used instead of the day - month combination, especially in project management. For instance today is Sunday 1st Oct, but also 39-7 (39th week, 7th day). Thanks !

Not very useful to anyone but a project manager. I doubt that it would be a sought after complication assuming it could be engineered into a watch movement at reasonable cost.

I didn't know such a complication existed. Interesting!

Wouldn't want one myself, but I'm in the minority that hates a date on a watch anyway.

I have a weeks calendar at my desk. Anyone who deals in manufacturing or shipping or the sale of those goods that are shipped uses weeks of the year. It's a common way to express time, especially future time.

Will run down production the 35th week of the year

Expect delivery in the 43rd week of the year

Yes, they exist, although they are (mostly) on the more expensive side. You should shop it in the used market. It used to be more common, these days with computers and desk calendars it is less produced.

The Glashutte is probably my favorite

But here's Oris, Patek, A.L&S, Blancpan, and Yunghans

I've been looking at a Zeppelin that does, though I was interested in the moon phase. It has the week along the outer rim, similar to a pointer date. Also I never heard of using weeks in PM before, but I do IT. I could see it being important in construction/engineering PM.

This is very common in Germany, we use it all the time at work. I'd love that Patek!!

·

I'd really dislike to wear one displaying weeks as it's only useful for work. I'd need to leave it on the desk and change in and out of it at the start and end of the working day. Not for me.

That Patek is 😍. Do you know the model/name?

Although it is quite common to use week numbers here, I thought it was more are regional thing and for some businesses. It never crossed my mind to ask, whether there are watches with this complication. Very useful!

We use week numbers everywhere, not just in a few businesses. For example, we say things like, "I'm on leave in the 31st, 32nd, 42nd, and 51st to 1st week," or "Do you have time in the 47th week so that we can meet?"

I never realized that I could buy a watch with a week number complication. I find it extremely useful and want to have one now.

Interesting.

In my 70 years I've never used, or heard anyone use week numbers for anything. Well, except for football, but that's only for 18 weeks and has no connection with a yearly calendar.

Week numbers seem to be a regional thing. When I discussed what information to put into bullet journals with people from the United States, I learned that they rarely use week numbers. Some even haven't heard of week numbers. However, in Germany, we use them all the time.

·

We don't really use it in construction. The only time it's relevant is when we have long lead times on manufactured (HVAC units, hot water heaters/boilers and structural steel) products like @seattlegirrlie posted about. However those date's quickly get switched to months and days. I think the complication is really cool. It would be a great talking point but useless in my world.

I wish we used it more standardly in the US. It's really convenient. Oh I'm out of town the 42nd week, can we have lunch during the 43rd?

I like the Glashutte Original, it must be more than 10,000?

Because it's one number against a sentence 🤷🏻‍♂️. It is not complicated if you are used to it and everybody uses it. It's like time telling in fast mode.

Like:

«Do you have time for lunch between Monday, 2 October and Sunday, 8 October?»

vs.

«Do you have time for lunch in the 40th (week)?»

Week numbers are ISO standard so that they always start on Monday. The only thing to keep in mind is, that the first week of a year is the one with the first Thursday of a year. In 2026 the last day of the year will be Thursday, 31 December. So the week Monday 28 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 comes out as 53rd week of 2026, and the first week of 2027 starts on Monday, 4 January 2027. That's why the expensive watches up in this thread show a 53 on the dial which is rarely used. But that's like setting a watch with date wheel after short months.

At least and finding one will be a challenge, but it's really cool and would be a special edition to any collection. I've been eyeing it for awhile
