My New Favorite Microbrand

Hello,

New member here sharing my first post. Pictured above is one of my Islander watches, my new favorite microbrand. Anyone else familiar with this brand?

Great brand! I also have an Islander, and it’s a fantastic watch. It seems like there are quite a few of us here who are fans.

Hello, I agree it is a great brand. Marc offers so much value for your money. I have about a dozen in my collection.

Nice. Is the bezel insert sapphire and slightly rounded?

·

I like the look of Islander, but perhaps a bit pricey in Australia with delivery and GST. How does the price in local currency (USD) compare to say, a Seiko 5, Citizen Promaster Auto, Orient diver etc? Significantly cheaper, or about the same?

·

Love them, on my list, esp the baby blue datejust 👍👍👍

Welcome I am also new here 🙏🏾

Yes, it is, and it is also fully lumed.

He just released two new versions of that model, including a sunburst cherry red.

·

Looks great! Love my Islanders.

Nice watch!  Marc Frankel is a great guy, one of the best people you'll find in this hobby.  I have yet to try an Islander, but I've only heard good things about them.

I would say the value for what you get is very comparable to Seiko, Citizen, or Orient, more so for the dress, field, and pilot models than the diver models. All Islanders come with sapphire crystals, screw-on case backs, a minimum of 10 bar WR (divers have 20 bar WR), and except for the quartz models, screw-down crowns. However, the prices are similar to the prices on comparable Citizen and Orient watches, and slightly less than comparable Seiko watches. All automatic watches use NH (35,36, or 38) movements except for the datejust homage dress watches which use the Miyota 9015 movement.

That is the one I have and I love it. I wear it at least once a week.

Edit: Oh, by the way, what model number are you wearing in your post?

Nice one, thank you. I recall reading that the dive watches at least were an "improved" version of the SKX, with better movement, sapphire, ceramic bezel etc for a Citizen price. Must look further into it.

Maybe Marc should appoint a dealer in Australia? 😉

This one is the #ISL-10. I replaced the bracelet with a rubber strap.

I don't own an Islander yet but am pretty sure the ISL-36 will be mine someday. Perfect replacement for the now defunct SARB033

Can't go wrong with the brand or Marc's service.

·

I'm a big fan of his YouTube channel.

·

Got to love long island watch!

·

Marc is a great guy and the Islanders are so good and vfm. If it was not for Import taxes plus shiping from USA to Germany I would have got half a dozent until now...😢

I'm a big fan of his YouTube channel.

Absolutely, especially since he touches on odd topics, such as import taxes or creative ways to remove bezel inserts.

He has also demonstrated, in no uncertain terms, just how user-friendly the Chinese watch industry is. China's lack of copyright protection is infuriating, but they are friendly, efficient and make quality products.

Yes, you will get from China what you are willing to pay for. If you pay for quality, you will also get quality. It does require patience at more due diligence to understand what you are actually ordering.

Sorry for the delay in response, and I agree. It is a great dress/everyday watch, and also the lowest price to get a watch with a Miyota 9000 series movement.
