Collection or grail?

You wipe the slate clean. The money is all back in your pocket. Do you get the grail or collect a lot of watches that make you smile?

Get the grail or you will always compairing or looking for a substitute. Unless you’re grail is something completely out of reach.

This assumes the grail is just barely in reach.

Barley or atleast visually attainable I would love a rose gold nautilus, but anything above 34k gives me heart palpitations. So grails in my mind have to be realistic and attainable or they are just pipe dreams.

Id be happy taking the same exact route that I did. Variety is the spice of life Andi am enjoying my options.

Because the money I've spent on watches does not even come close to my Grail (literally unattainable), I'd just use the funds to re-start my collection using what I know now as a guide.

Probably get the same Tuna, get a white dial titanium field watch, a G-Shock or Casio Royale & a no date bronze green dial Flieger with a sub-seconds at 6. Maybe a GMT.

I thought about this when we reinsured our art. If the house burns down and we get the payout, would we be happy to put it all towards a small Renoir and have every wall empty (bar 12"x14")? The answer is definitely no - I'd be left with a bland house and a piece that would point out our pretentiousness, and that's if we'd be brave enough to hang it where people could see it!

Like an overly expensive watch - I'd be too worried to wear it and I wouldn't have anything else in the stable. I'd probably pick up a couple of expensive pieces and several lesser, but none would be those I'd lost.

Grail?

Bwahahahahahahahabwahahahahaha!!!

It doesn't , and never will exist.

·

Depends on how old I am/where I am in collecting. If I’ve had a lifetime of enjoying a bunch of watches then I’d say get the grail.

What’s your grail?

I would go for a small collection instead of having a handful of grails. It always hurts seeing a new scratch or ding on my luxury watches, but my affordable timepieces wear it as a badge of pride.

·

Get the grail and call it a day. Grand opening grand closing! I don’t even enjoy collecting watches, it’s a sickness. I’m wearing one watch and thinking about another one. Just not healthy! 🌈

I like that idea. Start over with the knowledge I have now, my collection would look different but it would make me happier knowing I didn’t go after any watches I’ll never wear.

I personally don't see the appeal of owning a single expensive watch, so I would definitely have a collection.

In reality, if I had the cash in hand and my current knowledge, I'd have a smaller collection and spend less money on watches overall.

I'd likely narrow it down to a CW C65 Dune, Marathon SS Nav, Mission to Jupiter MoonSwatch, Momentum Sea Quartz 30, my three Timex Atlantis/Expeditions, and maybe my Jack Mason Strat-o-timer.

The rest of the watches I own are great watches, but I could quite happily own just the ones listed above and never feel like I was missing out on anything.

Now that is bada$$!!

·

Settle with the grail and leave this mental abuse for good.

·

Even with a clean slate, I still couldn't afford my grail.

·

If I could get all the money back, I’d just go out and buy a Porsche!

I never intended to collect watches, one thing just led to another.

😂😂🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

·

Git my Grail a few years ago, not regretted it one bit... So question is kinda void for me

Id recommend anyone get their Grail if possible, it saves money in the long term and that "special" feeling I get everytime I look at the time is only getting stronger years later.

I don't remember how I saw it, but I saw a few months ago one was for sale for 40% off RRP.

Still $150K, but the look on the wife's face when she said I could buy it (because it was 40% off) and then I told her the actual price was fantastic. Lol
