Most watch-nerdy watch

My first post - Im really enjoying this forum.

I’ve just purchased this Grand Seiko SBGN003 - I love the look, but more importantly I really wanted to add an F series high accuracy quartz movement to the collection. It’s the nerd in me.

What watches have others bought for their “nerd value”?

Got it because

  • 44GS case!  (Who the &%$# cares about the design history of the case?)
  • Cool angles and polishing rarely seen on titanium.  (Who the &%$# cares about titanium?)
  • Limited edition!  (Who in their right &%$#'ing mind would know or care that it's limited edition?)

My wife looks at me like I have antenna growing out of my head whenever I tell her about my watches' special specs.  Then again, I look at her the same way when she tells me about her paintings.  So, it's fair.

Hello KiwiWayne I see that you are from Hurricane country Chiefs supporter here but based in Auckland

Well played @KiwiWayne. I love GMT watches (haven't got one yet) and to get it in a Grand Seiko. Yep.  That'll do me 👍👏

·

What a great looking piece!  Congratulations.  I've been craving a GMT, and this one is high on the list.  Thanks for sharing the pic!  And welcome!

·

Sweet watch👊.

I’d love a GS!  Planning a trip to the GSstudio next time I go to Japan (bloody Covid… )
My watch nerd watch craving is for a spring drive. ..

And I’ve got my first one coming in the mail!

I do lots of crazy sports - so ordered a SNR043.  🤓🤪

pics and first impressions when I get it in a week or 2!

This bad boy is arriving today. I bought it because I love it, but the whole reason I learned about Zodiac in the first place* is because I’m a big ol’ true crime/all things macabre nerd. So of course I need a Zodiac watch - it marries two of my obsessions. Don’t get me wrong. I love this watch. The fact that is also scratches the true crime connection itch is a bonus.

*and, incidentally, had a lot to do with my obsession with watches in general

Beautiful watch - and exactly the kind of reasons I can respect.  It is the analysis and rationale that goes into the decision and purchase that makes it exciting for me.  Much kudos!

The spring drive is a nerdy reason for me to get one one day too!  I look forward to your pics.

I guess all of my watches are somewhat "nerdy" since they are part of one of my many collecting hobbies. 😀 However, I would say that I have three watches in my collection for their nerd value in one way or another.

I’ve had the same GS 9F GMT for a year and it hasn’t gained or lost one second, not one!!! I absolutely love this watch’s case size/proportions, jumping hour hand, and accuracy.

I like to collect pieces that reference brands’ heritage and nothing is more synonymous than Seiko/GS than a super quartz. Great choice!

I just bought a spring drive for the same season.
