Date or no date for daily wearer?

For a daily wearer specifically, is it an absolute must for you to have a date window, a must to have NO date, or are you indifferent? Curious what the split is.

For me personally it’s a must to have a date window, although I do think a dial is cleaner with out… (I guess you could say those who don’t like date windows generally see less dates 😝)

I usually prefer a date, but it’s not a deal breaker.

I lean more towards no date, but it depends on the specific watch

I hear that for sure. Certain watches lend themselves to certain things.

When I start writing letters or checks, the date window is most handy, aesthetics be damned.

I agree, if it's a "tool" watch it must have a date no matter the cost!!!

I love the simplicity of set the time, only, and go.

·

I need a date or else how am I going to know it. I look at the date as much as the time. I’m getting older what can I say.

·

For me, a watch without a date is a weekend/evening watch. During a work day I'm likely to be checking the date than I am the time.

·

For me the watch face has to be exceptional (to me) to accept no date. I just feel it completes the watch somewhat. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a date window. I really like how Oris does some of their dates.

I'm younger and I totally agree with you. Not only for checking the date, but is a physical point of reference for me when planning for upcoming travel, timelines, and deadlines. Is it really a tool watch without a date??

Depends on the watch for me. Pilot = no date, chronograph = date, dress = depends. Not sure why.

One thing I do like now is no-date divers. I use the bezel to turn the pip to the one’s digit of the date. For example, on the 6th, 16th, and 26th, I turn the bezel to 6 o’clock. After 4-5 checks in the morning, I have it down and zero the bezel. Good old “manual date”.

this sums up my thoughts exactly.

I don’t buy it unless I have a date. I tried it and returned no date watches back right away. However, to each is own.

·

I want DAY and date or nothing. I also prefer symmetry in my dial. So 12/6 day date windows make me 🥰

·

The more functions, the better for me.Breitling Aerospace line, although quartz, brilliant watches

·

Specifically for a daily wear piece, I can better see the argument for a date. But even if the need to fiddle for readjustments was removed, they still often cause aesthetic issues. I guess it would really come down to the watch, and whether the design and functions worked with or against that little window.

However, I'm virtually incapable of wearing the same thing (watches, shoes, etc.) more than twice a week - let alone daily - so it will remain a hypothetical question. Like, it nearly surprised me how much I chafed at just doing the thought experiment!

I used to care a lot about a date, or day/date window to the point where I dismissed any watch that didn't have this complication.

This is no longer the case. I'm rather indifferent now and the only showstopper is the presence of a cyclops because I hate these warts with a passion.

·

If there is a date, at the 6 o'clock.

·

Genuinely shocked dates are so popular - I despise them! Ruins the aesthetics and only actually useful once per day for anyone who has a functional memory!! As for Day as well, that's altzheimer's territory 🤯 -especially pointless on a dive watch!!!

·

Date is fine, just no day. Looking at you, seiko

I am starting to feel this way specifically for everyday wearers. I recently bought a BB58 and although I love it very much, I bought it to be a travel watch and I don’t think I can travel with out a date. So I ended up buying the BB pro shortly after… yes the thickness bothers me slightly but man does having the date window make all the difference.

This is a very interesting strategy for no date divers… I’ll have to give it a shot! So essentially your method works for each corresponding number as each number only appears 3 times in a month?

What changed you to not absolutely needing a date?

You must have photographic memory bro, that was savage 😂 I also use a date as a visual grounding point when planning out my weeks and months even if I remember it. Due to traveling a lot it Just helps me think through travel plans and deadlines better with out getting distracted by my phone. I too was very surprised that dates were so popular on this survey… I thought for sure no date would win.

I work in retail so my week is pretty structured , always sorting deliveries etc so I use the date a lot, so I don't need it on a watch.

Yup, savage indeed 🤣 that's how much I dislike 'em. ( My Favourite watch is probably my Willard, but the date is small enough to ignore & blend in with the indices, tho I make sure it's right 😁)

Well, it's simply happened. Maybe there were some prior warning signs, like not remembering if a date window was at 3, 6 or 4:30 on watches that I owned, I really don't know for sure except that the first time I put on a dateless watch I noticed the lack of the complication only after I took it off.

Ah I see, that makes more sense!

Most my watches have a date aside from my pocket watch. Searching for a no date watch, hopefully a Cartier Santos medium

Sounds like that’s a useful tool base collection you have there 🙂I too think the santos would be an amazing no date watch, great for classy occasions or for classing up jeans and t shirt
