Pairs of watches

Sometimes one watch can be elevated by sitting it next to another one sharing some traits, or design aspects or lineage.

These two British military watches are 10 years apart (1974 and 1984.) They have many differences, one mechanical, one quartz, one three hander and one chronograph. But then they also share a lot, a utilitarian aesthetic, black dials and white details, both fixed bars with NATO straps.

Sitting them next to each other makes them pop I feel. It draws the eye to things like differences in case and crystal shape. The Hamilton is all curves, whereas the seiko is much more straight lines and brutal.

Do you have any watches you feel go in a pair? Show us them!

Two separate parts of the same military in the same era, RAF on the left, Royal Navy on the right

Here is my Vietnam military watch collection. The left one is based on the design of MIL-3818B and right one is based on MIL-W-46374.

I thought that Hamilton lost the MoD contract in 1972/73.

I’m sure I could have simply Googled it but didn’t CWC take the contract over in 1973 after Hamilton pulled out of the UK market?

I just checked the back of the Hamilton and actually it’s a 1976 one - so I think that was definitely the last year..

I have the same combo, though my Seiko 7A28-7120 is from 1990 & Hamilton W10-6645-99 is from 1973.

Here is my 7A28-7120 paired w/a different Hamilton, a FAPD 5101 from 1970.

These are surprisingly generic in this thread! Both '84

What serial is your Seiko if you don't mind me being nosey?

August manufacture same as mine, they made most of the '84 watches in that month as far as I can see. One of the earliest Seiko S/N I've seen too which is neat! Very nice indeed 🍻

Very nice I admire those military watches.
