Hamilton Boulton & Cartier Tank

I love my Cartier Tank (solarbeat, large.)

Recently I’ve come across the Hamilton Boulton.

Am I mad to consider owning both? Something about all the curves of the Boulton really appeals. Good size too (small but not too small.)

Guess it’s kind of like getting a Tank Cintree - but for Hamilton money. (In the way it curves to the wrist..)

Buy what you love.

Different looks, get both (I like the Hammy a bit more, though).

You’re kind of making me think I should get that Hamilton…

Both look great. For me, it would be a question of wrist time. One would never make the cut.

I always consider: “if I buy this watch, will it dominate wrist time over others in my collection?” Sometimes it’s a nice upgrade, sometimes it’s a nice complement, and sometimes they wouldn’t compete with each other at all.

So consider, @Justingalore , when would you wear the Hamilton over the Cartier? How about the Cartier over the Hamilton?

I judge each watch on its own merits.  I’m going to have a Tank Must XL and a Tank Américain.  I’ll wear the Must on its bracelet as more of a daily sport watch and the Américain as a proper dress watch.

I don’t see a conflict with having similar watches at all.  If having a bunch of watches that all look alike were bad, there would be no such thing as Panerai collection.

Both watches, because of shape, show variety and a different character.  At least one is needed in everyone’s accumulation (I have a Seiko in that shape, but now I’m looking for another).

Look, if you love the style of rectangular dress watches, then you should not care about our opinion. Go get it and enjoy wearing it.

Well the fact is they fill the same niche I would say. which is an almost GADA watch - as I think my tank fits nearly all situations. Apart from things like yard work and jogging.

So really I don’t have a need for it. just a desire for it! The question is whether that is worth £440 to me. And the answer might be - yes - but only if you sell another watch of equal or more value...

I give the advice I always give when someone asks this type of question: the watches are different enough that both could easily fit in a collection.

Personally, I would feel like there's too much similarity and would prefer to avoid such a big overlap.

But you know what they say. If you have a really nice watch, you also need a beater. But then you also need a beater for your beater.

Before you know it, you're looking for a beater for your beater for your beater...

Buy what you enjoy looking at.  I have the Tank.  I also have the Boulton on my list of future purchases.
