Collection Renovation

How often do you think of revamping your collection. I have come to a number where I have cut myself off from adding to collection and it’s time to pare down!

All the time.

I need to fix one, sell/gift 3 to 5, and then get maybe 3-4 new ones.

Either that or sell all but 6 (sentimental pieces included) and get the aforementioned 3-4 new ones.

Renovation means addition to me

I see myself selling a watch for the purpose of upgrading. That gold bezel tissot = watch with more gold. My arita porcelain seiko = fancier dress watch. Zodiac super sea wolf = omega diver. But that's all theoretical. I love my watches

Always thinking about it. Especially after buying more!

I have put some aside for sale. Just haven't found time to do so yet.

·

My rule of thumb is that I try to not own more than 1 watch from each “type of watches”, I.e. I have 1 military watch, 1 diver, dress, 1 gmt, 1 integrated bracelet and so on.

Atm this allows me 10 slots in the collection, but I am constantly looking for loopeholes in my own rule. 🤐

All the time. I have 2 sentimental watches in my 6 watch collection but at any point the other 4 could be moved on if I wanted to. But I have to want something bad enough to warrant moving something on.

Like once a month XD

Constantly, mind you I have a 300 piece watch collection 😆

I feel like that every week and then I look at my bank balance..

I actually revamped my mindset. When I started this collection 3 years ago at 56, I decided to be a one brand collector, which with a name like Timex Badger I'll let you guess. As I got more into the hobby, I decided to explore other brands and even bought two replicas. I also built a little Timex museum in my office in my home. I felt I was losing the original idea when different brands started coming in and the theme was losing it's original intent which was to give love to a watch brand that is usually looked down upon by the watch community. This is a long way of saying I sold almost all of my non-Timex watches on ebay and now am back to my original mission statement lol. Stay humble my friends.

So cool my friend, thanks for sharing, I’ve always gone to the opposite end of the spectrum, not really wanting more than one watch from each brand. I am starting to realize that idea is not synonymous with what I would enjoy most out of my collection.

I have it down to a science, can be overwhelming some times when decision has to be made per occasions.

I vowed at the beginning of the year I was going to cut my 15 watch collection right down to three everyday watches if possible and the important sentimental watches I have 12 months previous I had 21 watches . Been doing well so far I’ve sold 7 watches and I cut my 15 watch collection to 17 😳🙄 what can I do my daughter bought me another from her holiday 😂 so basically I make a plan for a direction to take my collection and then proceed to burn it to the ground 😂

If I do not count some vintage watches and a few higher horology items that I placed in my bank box when my wife and I decided to renovate our brownstone after covid-19 struck, I still have around 35 watches lying around with a few more ordered timepieces on the horizon. It is finally time to slow down, identify one or two better watches to conclude my watch investigation that has been great during the last 40 years. Eventually my watches will go to all my family members, I have negotiated the sale of a few more valuable pieces since I do not wear them at all, dollars are always useful.
