Setting Time

I just had an epiphany today as I was setting my older Hamilton Khaki Mechanical (+15 sec/day) after wearing my Cincinnati field watch (+2 sec regulated at purchase). I realized on my Cincinnati, I hack at 0 and wait and time it off my iPhone, with the Hammy this morning, it was “ehh…7:08 is close enough”. Am I alone in this thought chain, just wondering for solidarity’s sake.

Most time I’ll pull up the world time on my phone and set my watch to the secound. Other days I’ll pick up a automatic watch that ram out of power for days and don’t even set the time. It’s a strange thing. I think it’s just about the mood I’m in for the day. Sometimes I think setting the time is just an excuse to fiddle with my watch because I have an Apple Watch I double wrist 2 cell phones and the time on my dash board of my truck so who am I kidding saying I need the time to be perfect lmao 🤣

In love with this watch and the strap pairing 👏🏻🍻

Yup, like @Mr.Santana, it's all about my mood when setting it.

For any of my mechanicals I go for "reasonably close." Often I'll set it purposefully a minute or two fast or slow depending on if the watch looses or gains time, respectfully. That allows me a longer reasonably close timeframe 😂

If I want accuracy, I wear Quartz

I set my watches to the second on occasion just to make sure the accuracy is stable and what it’s always been. If it’s noticeably off, it tells me something isn’t right. Beyond that, I typically just the set the minute and go on with my day.

I've mentioned this before, but I set my watches so they "error" through the +0 to +60 second range. If the watch is slow, I set to +60 and let it slow itself to +0, then set it forward another minute. If the watch is fast, I set it to +0, let it creep to +60, then hack for a minute. This usually buys me a week or two at least with my somewhat fortunately accurate watches, and it means I basically always know I'm in the +0 to +60 seconds from exact time, which is very usable.

Always set my watch to the exact second

·

I don’t check the accuracy of my watches. I generally set them to the second each day but that’s it. I don’t go back and obsess over how it did during the day. When I notice that one is isn’t running correctly, then it’s time for a service. Overall, I think I’m happier and less stressed this way.

This is probably just a carryover habit from collecting vintage watches where anything within a few minutes per day was good.

I did the same with my Seiko, set it to about+2mins, knowing it would be -2mins in about a month. Don't care about the seconds at all.
