Uncle's New Acquisition

I don't think I've ever loved a quartz watch more than this piece. I had to add a link, which was precariously hidden away inside the box it came in and it was more than enough time to fall for this watch.

From the locking butterfly clasp, to 15atm of water resistance, I think this might be my new Grail GADA.

A great era of VC.  Love this watch!

My dad had an automatic version of this Overseas generation at one point.  Within weeks of acquiring it, the movement stopped keeping accurate time and randomly stopping on him.  Long story short, after multiple service efforts in NYC, and later having the watch sent back to VC in Switzerland, VC determined that there was, in fact, an issue with the movement, but couldn't figure out what was wrong with it.  They wound up declaring it a lemon and replacing the piece with the following generation Overseas.

That is a beautiful watch.

Is that a new watch or a older watch? It’s very nice.

I have to check for the year but it's an older one.

Makes me wonder what happened inside of it.

Thank you! I think I like it more than his Patek Neptune.

Where did you find something like that?

Where did you find something like that?

He picked it up on eBay from a shop in Japan. Even the official VC paperwork was in Japanese.

Love it. Every so often there's a post that causes me to Google for more info. This is one of those posts.

That makes two of us -- apparently none of the watchmakers at VC could find anything wrong with it, but verified that it kept stopping for no obvious reason.

Cheers to that customer service at least. What became of the watch?

Dunno -- VC kept it and issued my Dad a replacement, which he's worn without issue (other than regular servicing) for nearly 15 years at this point.

Great looking watch love the industrial look of the bezel, the way the name is written is also a great touch

Beautiful watch, but having chronometer on a quartz feels a little like cheating

I think it's because these are thermocompensated versus otherwise

It was the first thing I checked, and to my dismay...all 60 markers are off by the same .1mm, give or take.
