King Seiko 2022

I absolutely love the look of the King Seiko, and in some ways i enjoy the Straight-up vintage vibes with the updated  modern mechanics, something u wouldn’t get if u purchased a vintage KSK.

But as much as I really want this piece… I‘m asking myself if I get this, why not just comm and go Grand Seiko? What are your thoughts?

They look stunning and if buying on looks alone I wouldn't hesitate. The 6R movement lets them down though and is a bit of an insult to the KS name.

·

Yes I'd echo the comment above, they look nice but the movements are well below the level of what was originally in KS watches!

Here's what I would have to say:

  • If you are a movement snob, then the watch definitely isn't for you
  • I have a bunch of Omega and GS in my collection, and what I've come to decide is that I personally couldn't care less about the movement inside a watch, so long as the movement is reliable.  21,600 or 25,200 or 28,800 or 36,000 vph?  Don't give 2 sh*ts.  The movement can bend space/time and create wormholes to Narnia?  Not a fan of the C.S. Lewis series.  So long as it's reliable and easy / cheap to service and maintain, and I'm all good.  In fact, I'm slowly divesting myself of all my GS hi-beat movement watches, 'cause I just don't care about the movement - unless it's spring drive, but even then, only because of the smooth sweep of the seconds hand...  it's just crazy mesmerizing and great for controlling my ADHD
  • If you don't care about the movement, then the only things left to care about are a) design, b) fit and finish, and c) comfort on the wrist, yeah?
  • a) Design - If you're into the 60's aesthetic, but want modern reliability, can't think of a better choice
  • b) Fit and finish - Out of this world good.  I can't tell the difference between this and my GS watches on that front
  • c) Comfort - That's all subjective.  But, at 37mm diameter and 42.5mm lug-to-lug, it's gonna fit nearly every wrist out there.  And, the 7-link bracelet articulates amazingly, and is super breathable, so perfectly comfortable in hot weather.  Finally, all the links are effectively "half link" sized, so again, lots of articulation and comfort and designed for easy fitting

Hope that helps!

If you love they way they look and feel buy it and enjoy! I also have a King Seiko SJE083…I bought the watch about a year a ago not fully understanding the movement it has and the main reason why I bought it is because I fell in love on how it looks and feel. Like, @Omeganut stated earlier if you are a movement snob then that’s something else. I was going to start collecting all the new King Seikos but I’m in knee deep with porcelain/enamel dials lately... also you can pretty much have maybe 3 or 4 king seikos with GS😆 just in case your filling up your *whispers* watchbox

·

I think there's a big difference between being a movement snob and having concerns about the quality of the movement in a watch that costs almost £1,500 and is relaunching a line that was known for its superior movements back in the day.

My own experience with the 6R15 in my SARB033 is that it's a bit of a dud (minus 25 to 30 seconds per day with a crazy amount of positional variance), and I've read many many other reports of issues with other 6R series movements over the years.

I really do love the look of these, but at that price I do think Seiko are taking the piss a bit and going against what the KS line was originally about.

·

Beautiful watches but overpriced and a really disappointing movement choice.

Seiko is sticking it to their customers, more and more.

·

But, that red dial....

·

Having one or few Seiko watches worth have in a collection.

·

I got the SPB281J1, and I think it's a great watch overall, easy and elegant to wear on any outfit. Yes the movement might be lacking but changing it to a 6L (for example) might raise the price over $2000 (then  people will argue over the price being so close to an entry level GS lol)

·

me personally id go with the king seiko I just really love the look of it. I plan on buying the red dial version in the upcoming months but it is hard to justify paying almost $2000 for a seiko when you could just bump up to a grand seiko for the same price if not only a few hundred dollars more.

So I’m curious. That is the exact model I’m interested in. I guess part of me is “concerned” that this will overshadow all the other watches in my collection because this is so versatile between the bracelet and the ability to rock straps so well. Are you finding that this is essentially replacing your other watches? What role does this watch fill for you?

Hey there! For me, personally, I’ve found that no matter how much I like a particular watch, it never dominates my collection - I rotate watches every single day!

I guess it’s sorta like shirts. I may really, really like a particular shirt, but I change my shirt every day!

It’s a great watch. The finishing is phenomenal. And I’m soooooo happy with the “workhorse” movement. It recently had issues, and was running +5 seconds per minute. Sent it into the Seiko service center, and they swapped out the faulty movement for a new one. Door to door and back in my hands again, the watch was gone for 2 weeks!

Hey sorry to bother you about this watch again. I was curious how the legibility is with the sunburst dial? I’m torn between this and the satin silver dial.
