How does Orient do it? NWA Red Kamasu

Been looking for a red dial watch to help round out my collection and after hearing great things about the Kamasu, I took a chance on it. Got it a few days ago and am so happy that I did, I'm really digging it. Aside from a stunning dial and great all around spec's, I feel like it wears much smaller than the 42mm dial size. Even with a chunky bezel, how does it seem to wear smaller than my Seiko Presage's at 40mm or much smaller than my Bulova Sutton automatic's at 43mm?

Is it just me? Am I just used to wearing larger watches? Or does the Kamasu wear much smaller than it's specs?

I bought a Phoibos Voyager because I thought that was too large. I love that red dial.

The Kamasu is a great watch. I have the teal one but the red one is better IMO!

That purple Phoibos looks awesome! Or is it red? How do you like the watch overall?

Did you get to try the Kamasu on your wrist, or were you discouraged because if the specs? I'm honestly not sure if I'm just tripping, but I checked the size twice since receiving it just to be sure it really is 42mm.

That teal one looks sweet too, it's definitely temping me to be the acquisition. Is it true that it really changes between green and blue depending in the light or angle?

The specs put me off. I like the Phoibos. It is a NH35 so you kind of know what its limitations are. It is a deep crimson. I kept looking at that Kamasu for about six months.

I think the red dial Kamasu will be the Dive Watch that’ll be added to the collection.

It’s lovely!

Well, I think you got a stunning red diver with that Phoibos as well. Thanks for turning me on to them, I'm gonna look into thos Voyagers more

That red looks great 👍

I own the red dial and black and gold and love them!

Great specs for the money.

Enjoy your watch!

Cheers!

As a Steelers fan, that Black and Gold Kamasu looks mighty tempting too 🤩

I came here today really happy, content with my collection. And now I've got 2-3 more watches that have my mouth watering. This site is dangerous!

What's the lug-to-lug?

·

It’s too blood red for me . Car crash camouflage …

Great watch and gorgeous red dial...I picked up the same one.

I think it's an optical illusion created by the bright red dial surrounded by the black bezel. The black bezel causes you to only see the red dial which is obviously significantly smaller than the 42mm case size.

Thus, you get the illusion of it being a smaller watch.

The reverse happens when you get a watch like a Junghans that has no bezel making it all dial and appearing larger than its stated case size.

Soo Woo 🔥🔥🔥

Dark dials and thick bezels usually makes a watch appear smaller.

Great point and well explained. Yes, when compared to a smaller dress watch with no bezel (like my Presages at 40mm), the Kamasu does seem smaller on the wrist. I considered another model with the matching red bezel and face (is it a Mako?), but something about the black bezel coupled with the red won me over and I'm glad I did.

You're right. But it's so counterintuitive to me, I would think a thick bezel would make it appear bigger on the wrist. But I'm seeing that now 👍

Its a very short lug to lug and the case curves nicely on to the wrist. It wears more like a 40mm watch on the wrist and the lug to lug is only 46.8mm.

Great choice with the color, red and the teal dial is the best out the bunch.

The case and end links do hug the wrist nicely. And since it does wear/feel more like a 40mm on the wrist, I'm gonna recommend it to my brother who has a smaller wrist. He was looking at a Tissot diver but decided against it because the lug to lug was so big. This may work well for him too 👍

Tissot automatic divers are for people with 7.5 inches plus wrist. Great specs but is unnecessarily large.

The Kamasu is a good option for a smaller wrist. Plus you also have two versions of Kamasu variants.

This is a newer version with Arabic numerals, I'm waiting for it to be available.

47mm lug to lug, is that smaller than most?

LTL can cause it to "wear larger" if it's too far out of proportion; but 47mm is a good ratio for 42mm width.

Beautiful!! I have the same one and I love it! Life hack: strap code makes some amazing quality bracelets for the kamasu that really take it to the next level. I think all five watches wear alittle smaller than their dress watch counterparts with the same case diameter, only because the actual dial sizes are much smaller to make room for the dive bezels. The dial on a Seiko presage cocktail time, on the other hand, will take up most of the 40mm real estate and this look bigger on the wrist.

This is the orient mako. I’ve never seen this color combination, though. Main difference between the newer kamasu and the older makos and rays will be the sapphire crystal that comes with the kamasu. Hence the higher retail price.

The strapcode jubilee style bracelet really looks great on the kamasu

Thanks for the rec, I will definitely check that out 👍

I know. The Kamasu is in the Mako family lineup, Orient puts their 42mm divers into family. I don't really want to get begging their naming strategy 😅

But the model I posted the photo comes with sapphire crystal upgrade like the Kamasu. There is a white, red, pepsi and green jdm colour variants.

I used to own one and would agree it wears more like a 40mm. I added an after market strapcode bracelet, as the one it comes on is quite poor. I wasn't particularly impressed by the bezel either. However, for the price it is a decent watch. A year or so later I wanted another red diver and bought myself a Phoibos Voyager 3 for a similar price. I believe the overall build quality is a little better, the bezel is lot better, and what's more I didn't have to pay out for an additional bracelet because the stock one is superb.

Aurelian mentioned the Phoibos earlier as well. I checked it out and those look really nice as well. Thanks for the comparison between the two, it's helpful as I consider my next diver acquisition.

I have these 2 Kamasu variants as well

The black/gold variant is the most overlooked of the variants and the one I receive the most compliments on

·

Congrats! I also got a kamasu red but mine is called Kamasu Sport or Kamasu II - Great watch got everything I could ever want in a watch only the strap could be better.

It's been said over and over, but I'll add: that red is striking! I'm looking for a red watch to add to my "liturgical colors" collection. This might be a contender! Thanks for sharing!
