WTF Is Bremont Thinking?

Firstly I'd like to say that I am not a Bremont hater, on the contrary, I am a fan of the brand. That's not to say I don't understand some of the hate at all mind you. The "in-house" movement, as well as some of their prices, have indeed caused me a few eye rolls. But overall, I think they make a compelling and unique product.

But 115 dollars for a buckle?! Is this some of that famous British humour that just doesn't translate across the pond? To put it in terms the company will understand....

Now, some of you may say "But jcn247, this is a luxury brand you tosser!". Ok, but for some context....

Omega is charging 60 dollars for a pin buckle. OMEGA! Where on earth does Bremont get off?!

Funnily enough they are about to relaunch the brand at Watches and Wonders and go downmarket with their watch pricing. Davide if you're reading this (and I know you aren't) buckle is supposed to be the name of the product, not what happens to my knees when I see the price!

They'll prolly still get peeps to buy at that price tho sadly.

And I'll agree it's bonkers, unless it's hand forged or some such nonsense 😂.

And before errbody pile drives the brand, I do appreciate their commitment to unit watches, and they make some cool designs to me.

Yeah like I said I'm a fan of the brand. That's how I found this, I was looking to buy a Bremont buckle. But,

Do you get a free watch with that?

Right? They should throw in an F91W at least 😂

·

Supply and demand

The brand obviously makes these because people buy them…

·

As a man across the pond this doesn’t resonate as British humour.. they are undoubtedly taking the piss😂

·

Total bargain!

Well the whole brand is relaunching with a new logo and new price structure so apparently not that many are buying their stuff...

THANK YOU!

They're all 6's and 7's over at The Wing imo 😂

Whilst there have been major changes behind the scenes at the brand, to insinuate that “not many are buying their stuff” is counterintuitive when they are the largest luxury watch manufacturer in the UK; £28m in turnover would suggest that people might buy Bremont watches. They want to expand, the investors want returns, relaunch and restructure of the product line is sensible, and they’ve brought in an experienced CEO (Davide Cerrato) to help with this expansion.

People obviously want to buy a buckle, otherwise why offer it?

Better be made out of vibranium.

·

How often do you realisticly have to change it? I think it a niche product so may warrant the price in the eyes of its maker.. I say the sell 7 pieces a year.

You don't make major changes to a brand where everything is working extremely well. That's my point, and that's what's intuitive. And it's not just "behind the scenes" changes, they're changing their logo, attending a very public show with a large booth they have publicly eschewed for 20 years, and are putting out a new product at a totally new price point for the brand.

But you're right, they are already doing decent numbers. So I'll amend my comment and say not enough people are buying their stuff. Cleary that's what they think anyways.

And it's not that they shouldn't offer a buckle, it's that offering a buckle at nearly twice the price of Omega is exactly the kind of hubris that puts people off the brand.

Again, I'm a fan of the brand. They just make some bad choices sometimes, and I believe this is one of them.

P.S. Nice profile pic of Mr. Moore. R.I.P.

They don't sell their straps, any of their straps, with a buckle already on them. Buckle sold separately!

They're having a giraffe my old china

Ridiculus!

That's the budget of my affordable grail 😀

That also looks £10 quality mind you 🤷🏻‍♂️

That is the whole idea of luxury in the free market. No surprise here, at all, honestly.

Ah… but this is WC, simple economics doesn’t apply apparently. Neither does research. It is what it is.

There have been a few interviews with the new CEO from watch journalists. I'll be interested to see what they debut at W&W. Seems like it's going to be a colourful field watch around 2.5k.

Wait 'till you see prices for an OEM rubber Hublot strap

Good thing we have you to be above us all. If the mass of WC is so insufferable, why are you here? Ah I see, to tell us just that, cool.

I'm glad to know that no one can complain about the price of anything because it's all merely "simple" economics.

Also posting a rival company's offering (one with way more prestige and heritage mind you) isn't doing my research.

And they say watch snobs don't exist!

That's more than I paid for a JLC pin buckle. Robbers.
