Spinnaker 50 Phantoms Blue
After a conversation with another enthusiast whilst on holiday I have made an impulse order for the blue version of the 50 Phantoms.
At least as far I can tell I have preordered one for delivery in late March 24!
It's unusual for me to make such an impulse purchase especially of a collaboration. I had no interest at all in the two swatch offerings.
But as this appeared to be a proper watch made out of actual stainless steel I went ahead.
It seems to have decent specs and at a reasonable price although I know its "only" an NH38.
I have heard of spinnaker in passing and they seem in general to get favourable reviews.
Also the black and grey dial versions sold out within minutes of being available to buy.
So my questions are
Is Spinnaker a brand worth buying?
Is the 50 👻 Phantoms qwerky as it is, worth the money?
I forgot to mention that this purchase is actually for my wife who loves it but I'm hoping it will be too big for her!

Having seen the original in person, I am fully supporting this move. The blue looks sharp, especially the ghost bezel version.

Glad to hear! I really like the look of this watch. I think it looks like it's been done with a good attention to detail. Spinnaker as a brand seems to get a lot of love here.

I tried on the black and grey at Wind Up and felt they were well worth the price. The lug to lug was the only thing making me nervous... I think this is going to be one I regret not getting 🫣

I pre-ordered the blue too. Quite a few months to wait but I was excited for the first release but missed out with the e-mail mishap.

I would take the blue given the choice so perhaps lucky there wasn't actually a choice! Mrs W now has my blue dial Seiko and Gareth is renovating a green dial actus that I'm buying her for her birthday which is while we are away here in Mauritius. Bases on her interest in the 50 Phantoms I think I have infected her with the watch bug....and she was the one who started the conversation with the guy wearing a blackbay so she is even watch watching now. Not sure whether to be happy or not!?

For what its worth, @Guvnor64 , my wife really like her SRPD Seiko 5, which is a fairly substantial dive watch.
And when I say like, I mean wear as much if not more than her Tissot Seastar 36.

I do like this, but I’m going to pass. I probably would wear it once and never again, and I have too many watches resigned to such a fate. The Mrs also didn’t want it. She didn’t want a Turtle MCP Haas either, but I’ve still got that inbound from Aus... guess that’s mine now. I am after a Piccard, so I’m just waiting for the right moment to ask Santa.
I am not the arbiter of anything, but I am happy that many will get a second crack at the whip, and that Spinnaker are trying to make up for the mistakes they acknowledge - this is a good thing. Everyone wins (except scalpers - I hope).

I was lucky enough to get one of the black ones. It’s been on my wrist non-stop for two days now and I can tell you for sure it’s worth it. Really good finishing and great feel!

As the owner of 7 Spinnakers, I really do think they are excellently put together. The automatics all keep time to within 5 seconds a day. The quartz are as expected and bang on and the seconds hand hits all markers perfectly. The bracelets are very good, but I've not got on with any of their straps. A little to thick and stiff for me. All the watches were purchased as used but I think they are decent value at new prices too.
I wasn't sure about the 50 phantoms originally. It's definitely grown on me and I have to say I rather like them now but personally I wouldn't buy one new. Just economics. Perhaps a few years from now a used one will haunt me enough to buy it.
I hope you enjoy your blue one next year.
