Popswatch anybody!?

I have recently "inherited" a small collection of swatch popswatches.

These date as I understand it from the late eighties to early nineties when I think they were fashionable for a time for mainly girls and young women to wear?

They range in condition from poor to good. None are presently working as the batteries expired years ago.

Batteries are easy to replace, the scratches buffed out with polywatch and the material straps washed.

I'm not at all sure this will be worth the effort. I would not want to keep them as they hold no appeal to me.

I was wondering whether to clean them up and put them up for sale as a job lot or possibly individually?

Looking on the Internet and ebay prices appear all over the place ranging from a few quid to several hundreds for rare models.

I quite like more conventional swatches and own a few but I have no knowledge or experience of this variety. There has not been a single post here on the subject.

Any swatch fan boys/ girls with any knowledge and advice for my odd predicament?

Wouldn't sell them solo, a collection like that should be kept together. It's nice in it's own way.

I believe you have four choices - a) put the whole batch on ebay as-is, b) same, but shined up nicely, c) store them 20 years hoping they'll increase in value, d) try and wear 'em, you might find you like 'em :)

I'd go with d), and if no, then b).

Thank you! Yes I have tried a couple on but definitely not me I'm afraid. I think I will get batteries and clean them up. You are probably right to keep them together.

I do have two grandaughters two and four...I could gift them to them when they are a bit older. They might come back in fashion?

We have a pop swatch, and about ten or so other old 80s swatch models. My girlfriend recently rescued them from her childhood bedroom and they’re pretty cool but not functioning.

I think they are east to get going again. Battery change looks straight forward assuming you can get the batteries.

Oh, I believe they already are, some younger fahionistas probably think they're super retro cool. They still won't be wanting to pay too much, being young 'n poor.

Granddaughters is a nice idea too. Then again, when they are around 20, the hip retro wrist candy to wear is probably an ancient Apple Watch :)

Good point! Yes don't think im sitting on a fortune with these!!

These were hard currency among some of the guys in my secondary school. They also didn’t stop fiddling with them, so we’re constantly flying round the classrooms and down stairs. Which probably explains why examples of some are so rare now.

I am sort of surprised they don’t still exist — but I don’t think Swatch market to the kid space anymore. At least, not actual kids at any rate.

Interesting! I'm too old to remember them at school but I do remember them heavily advertised on TV and they seem to have been everywhere briefly!
