If you haven't found anyone you can trust with your watches than I really don't know what to tell you.
There's plenty of stuff I know how to do myself that I often pay others to do like paint one of my houses, change the oil on one of my cars or just mix me a good cocktail. I guess I could live in fear that they will bone it up but that hasn't been my experience and living in fear isn't my jam.
I've known Enrique for many years now and he's just an honest, capable, hard working dude that came to this country to make a better life for himself and his family. I'm lucky to have him as a resource.
By all means though do you. What I've been doing has gotten me to where I am today and I'm good with that.
Gifted watches can definitely be tricky.
I just had the battery replaced today in this Elgin that was given to me almost 25 years ago by my wife. We wouldn't get "in to" watches until over two decades later and I do miss the innocence of the regular guy bubble.
My wife cringes a little when she sees it in my "good" watch box but I do wear it and I sincerely appreciate that it represents that part of our journey together.
She had it inscribed "XMAS 1999 XOXO R" so it will be worn and with me until the end. I've done harder things than that...
I have four "levels" of watch places I go to for service in the L.A. area depending on the expertise required and the value of the watch in question. These places range from the local Swap Meet to the downtown Jewellry District.
It's cool to see that you have a place that is taking good care of you. I've had to give a few watchmakers the boot!
You are crushing it!
With that mix you could just as competently give suggestions rather than seek them. From bright colors when you're feeling playful, to the Longines tank for added elegance, you have a lot of scenarios covered.
Many great condition vintage watches in smaller sizes are available, often at super low prices, if you are interested in adding something with some history. Vintage watches can be tricky though my wife has found some real gems when carefully hunting.
Happy hunting!
The Sector Deep-Polar Destro is cleeeaaannn! The rehaut cutaways for the black bordered hour markers is a sweet feature and pricing isn't crazy. Happy hunting!
