So my unrealistic grail watch is a Grönefeld 1969 Deltaworks. With a limited production and a price of €50k there's no responsible way to get one. I started thinking about getting a dial made and buying a small seconds case to build my own, when I realized my Certina is a pretty good stand in as is.
This got me wondering about other affordable stand-ins you have for your grail watch.

Both of those are beautiful! I’d say my BULOVA Lunar Pilot scratches the itch for a Speedy, the Rotary Cambridge feels Reverso-y haha, and my Seiko SBDC159 sort of gives me Grand Seiko SLGA007 vibes.
To be clear, I don’t see these as 1:1s or anything, and I love these “stand-ins” in their own right. I’m really using: “could I see parting with any of these affordable pieces, if I were to get the aforementioned grails?” as a metric here.
Great question and post @Fiatjeepdriver 🍻
$62, vs $19,000 for the Breguet (or $94k for the ultimate Breguet).
I would love a Blancpain Bathyscaphe in Ti but $12k is a steep ask for a 3 hand diver that does rhyme with Trollex.
My SPB143 has substituted for now with a grey dial and SS bezel.
My Tag Heur Carrera has been my substitute for a Daytona for years.
