any Casio will do.

The F-91W is 30M. I showered with it once just to prove it would survive. I need an underwater watch like I need an underwater car. I stay above the waterline.

·

My wealthy (& possibly stupid) cousin regularly swims in the sea wearing his Speedmaster Professional (30 or 50m w/r) 🤯

Personally for me it's 100m , maybe we're opposite ends of the spectrum 😅

Who dares wins...

Less time he has to spend with his speedy not on his wrist.

TBF, Omega do state that 30 m WR = 30 m practical diving depth, so it's on them.

30M = 98 feet. PADI open water scuba cert training goes no deeper than 18 meters/60 feet. I've seen pics of a scuba diver wearing the F-91W while diving, so the watch is can do it - just don't push any buttons! In my younger days I dove with a G-shock. Assuming I ever dive again (not likely, but assuming...) I'd be comfortable diving with a F-91W. t.

To me water resistance rating is less about me ever diving that deep and more about the watch's over all robustness. Hence my vote for 100M for a "beater."

Well, there are gaskets in the crown and pushers. I've read other Speedy owners say they swim with the watch on as well. I won't with mine, but I suspect your cousin is safe doing so with his - just so long as he doesn't operate the pushers or pull the crown!

I was just looking at your profile and I have to say... impressive collection you have there. A lot of diversity with seemingly carefully selected models. Therefore I have to ask you :

What would be your beater?

·

Thanks. The GShock GWM5610 is my beater of choice.

Image

For a mechanical option, the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical. Only 50m of water resistance, but a slim profile, sapphire glass and bead blasted case, it’s a true military watch meant to be in uncomfortable situations.

Nice choices. GShocks cal really take a besting so it is a logical choice. Beautiful combo with the strap and the Hamilton.

·

50m, as I don't want to live in fear of ground fog.

·

For more confidence 1000m i like to go to the beach and other places in México where there is a pool to swim in so I prefer to wear one of my divers with at least 200m and a screw-down crown

·

Handwashing and showering should not be administered to ANY watch with ANY amount of WR; the steam from hot water can warp the seal inside the casing, thereby ruining the water resistance ability. If you're gonna wear your watch while handwashing or showering, you'd be advised to use COLD water. 😎

·

My first beater choice is my G-shock DW-5600E at 200bar which is way more than I need but ya never know, kidnapping, getting shanghaied, cast away... I want a reliable time piece should that happen.

Image

My second option is my Casio G-shock Mudmaster GS-8100 cause there might be quicksand as well😉

I'll say I've used 300m divers sitting in a kiddie pool with my son...

Better safe than sorry...

The more the better....but a minimum of 100.

E. 0m

After being invested in vintage watches for so long, putting a watch near water just feels wrong to me.

·

I remove my watches when I do the dishes. 30m is plenty enough. I do scuba diving and 30m is pretty deep, you don't need more.

·

Nobody swims at a depth of 30m!!! I think we tend to get a little carried away with this measurement. Showering/swimming with 30m WR should be fine all day long provided the watch has been properly maintained and gaskets are new and tested.

·

C, as the title said, beater, you don't want to worry about yout watch for daily activities and a bit more. Diving need serious prep and gear, so I don't think it is a normal daily activity for most.

If I may ask. What is your beater?

·

seriously, who wears a watch in the shower ?

Honestly, QnQ, I don't mind if it is broken when I know I could damage other watches, but so far is doing great apart from scratches on crystal and its plastic body, cheaper than mrw or f91.

Realistically, 50m is more than enough for me but I feel less anxious if it's 100m
