Should I Sell?

Crazy people online are paying $900 for the OG alpinist. I mostly wear divers and only pull this out once a month. Should I just sell and buy a SBDC101?

I mean, if you no longer want an iconic watch, aren't super attached, or need the cash - sure? I got mine years ago and could make a nice profit, but it's an iconic watch to me - so the value proposition to sell and/or trade it for another watch is simply not there.

·

This is hard to come by nowadays. The SBDC101 is easily accessible. If you ever want the alpinist back, you probably won't find one in the same or better condition of the one you have. I've also heard they're many of fakes out there.

·

Never sell a watch unless absolutely necessary. Put it away for a while.

·

I never sell watches and I especially would not sell my Alpinist

·

I would sell. I doubt its value will get any higher and it sounds like the general hype for the model exceeds your own. I have an SPB253 - similar to the SBDC101 - and it’s fantastic.

I'd say don't sell. I reckon supply of these will remained constrained and prices high because they're becoming a modern classic. At least that's how I justify to myself not selling my SKX and SNK809.

This is not the OG Alpinist. This is the 2nd generation of the re-launch of the line. The modern OG would be the SCVF009, which is also green. They also made a black dial variant with sharkteeth indices, and also a cream dial version. These models launched long before the SARB series did.

·

Don't do it just yet. Put it away for 6 months. Forget about it. Take it out and if you're feeling "sell" then you have your answer.

·

If it's not life-changing money, why sell?

·

Yes.

·

Naaa this is much more special looking.

·

There is Pumpkin Spice season which happens at the same time as Alpinist season.

Sell if you want to, but they literally don’t make these anymore.

·

I learned this lesson long ago. Don’t sell it. Just put it away as others have said. I had a SARG011 a few years back and about 6 months after they went out of production, I sold mine like an idiot for a very nice profit. I wish I still had it.

If you care, I do see the SARG011 and SARG009 pop up for $500-600 on occasion.

That is something I may grab after I get a couple I have my eye on. Thanks for the heads up!

Sure thing! I had a SARG009 that I wish I still had. The numerals on these watches are so friggin cool.

·

If you're not wearing it, why not. Or maybe try it on a bracelet and see if you give it more wrist time.

$900, nutcases, it’s a $250 watch

Spot on. Plus if he got it years ago it was a steal!..350 was the max I paid for mine years ago. Can't find that price anymore

·

Alright I appreciate everyone’s input. I will hang onto this for the time being. It would be extremely difficult to replace if I ever changed my mind and the sbdc101’s are super accessible at the moment. I’ll throw it back on the bracelet to spice things up.

True. I just called it the OG because I see more hype over this version. But it is not the original

Yeah I got mine for 300. And no money isn’t a issue. Just trying to limit how much money I have tied up in watches.
