Show us your Vintage Digitals!

Seems we don't have a collective show-off thread for vintage digital watches yet!

I'm sure many of us had a digital watch at some time in our life, most probably as a first watch even; I had many cheap plastic digitals as a kid, which I either lost, drowned, broke, or swapped, much to my parent's chagrin.

Pictured above is my only vintage digital that made it till today, a 1981 Citizen Seven; I found just the head on a flea market in the 90s, and made the leather band for it. I just adore it's Space Mine / Jolly Roger shape. It's also really well built, with a steel case with screw-on back. It became my dedicated beater watch for live music, it has seen countless concerts, stages, rehearsal and backstage rooms, and still works just fine.

So, what ancient electronic wizardry lurks in your drawer? Do you still have a watch from your youth? Do you even collect old digitals, or just have one quirky beeper you feel your collection needed? Post them here!

Please post only true vintage, as in: 30 years or older. Bonus points for: LEDs, general quirkiness, and not being a G-shock ;)

My graduation present from now passed away parents when I graduated from my university. This is my 1981 Seiko Digital A939-5009. Still functional.

Enjoy your watch!

Cheers!

Luxor Chrono Alarm, Swiss Made

This was my first watch purchase in 1979. It proudly wears a battle scar acquired during my compulsory Swiss army service. Still keeping excellent time.

Phones shrank and watches grew bigger.

I had a short relationship with this Convoy 7 Melody Chrono from the 80s. I received it last summer from a friend, but after a few months of working once when I wanted to set the time the display switched off and I couldn't turn it on again. Despite of the short time it was really fun to wear it.

This might be a dumb question, but: does the phone still work?

This might be a dumb question, but: does the phone still work?

Yes and no.

Although the phone works perfectly (the battery pack has been discharged for years but I still have the car kit), there is no analogue network for the phone to connect to. This phone came before the digital GSM network era.

The hardware was built to last but the technology changed. In the case of this phone that was a good thing. It was quite possible to buy a scanning radio that could receive the analogue phone frequencies and listen in. 😎

Love that gold Pulsar digital. That watch is so advanced it has a warning for when a flying saucer is trying to levitate you into its hold 😜
