I had a digital Casio for a short time in the 80s, but I was too much of a preppy wannabe snob to wear it and gave it away. Didn't get any digital watches until later on. I've since begged the watch gods for forgiveness and am the proud owner of two Casios that fit the bill. Though they are not "vintage," I think they qualify as classics. Casio is God Tier to me now. I have seen the light!
I can not remember the brand I had, but it was one of the first digital led watches that lit up when you turned your wrist instead of having to push a button to see the time.
Circa grade five, I had a Realistic digital watch. This was Radio Shack's private label. My memory has this being nearly identical to an F-91W (current owner!) but chronologically it must have been some predecessor.
Before I had the Casio watch I had the 1976 Casio CQ-1. It helped me graduate from High School early and Community College by the time I was 18. It was also my bedside dorm alarm clock and trusty homework companion. It still works though the AC plug died and the Casio Databank watch that came 7 years later in 1983 is a little wonky.
Didn't have either Casio or Timex digital when I was a kid, I had a Texas Instruments red LED that was my first digital watch. Currently, I have Texas Instruments, Casio, Timex, Citizen, Seiko, Armitron, Sanyo, and Orient digital watches in my collection, although several need new batteries.
Timex was not really available in South Africa when I was a kid so Casio was the go to watch. Got the F91w like many other people out there as my first watch but I don't own one now. Still own quite a few Casio's though!
I own some of both brands... But I don't think I had a watch as a kid. I had family that worked for Timex on the island and my grandfather collected them, but I've never seen a photo of me wearing a watch as a child.

Not "we all"
When I was a kid they didn't exist-and when I first did get one it was a Texas Instruments digital.
Right now I have a couple Casios and a couple Armitrons.

I think I had an early Timex Ironman? Probably a Casio at some point, but the Timex stands out most in my memory.
