Vertex M100A Dilemma

I want to purchase a Dirty Dozen style watch. I love the Vertex M100A. However, the sub dial cuts off parts of the 7 and 5 numeral indices. IMHO, it throws off the symmetry of the dial. I'm feel like this is deal breaker.

Am I being being overly anal retentive?

Thanks

If you don't like truncated numbers, don't feel bad about it. You're the one who's going to wear it and look at!

I'd suggest shopping around some more. There are LOTS of Dirty Dozen inspired watches, especially if you're not fussed about it being made by one of the 12. And let's be honest, most of those companies still in business have been passed around and watered down for a long time, so it would mostly be about a nod to the name on the dial anyway.

·

Really fancy one myself, can't say the cut off numbers bother me in the slightest - I find date windows far more infuriating!!

Can definitely see one in my watch box in the future 😉👍🏻

·

IMHO bro, she's perfect 🥰!! I Don't mind a little slit up the side but yeah the options are plenty.

·

I agree with you. The cutoff parts of 5 and 7 do not look good to me. Just looks wrong. I would rather they remove those numbers, like they removed 9.

·

This is common with sub-second dials, and with the original reference WWW; maybe you don’t want a WWW.

Nothing that 30 seconds on google couldn’t answer (again)

·

I actually like the cut numerals. I much prefer cut numerals to an absence of numerals.

·

This is a watch I would love to have. The reason the numerals are cut off somewhat is that they wanted the sub seconds to be larger in keeping with the upsized proportions in relation to the original.

Also as for this being a watered down brand that has been passed around, please take no offense. This brand was sold, and reacquired by the great grandson of the gent who started the company.

·

It doesn’t bother me. Part of the Dirty Dozen era! Gives it character

·

I think the short answer is you don’t want a dirty dozen style watch you want a watch.

Per below you really need to determine if you want a dirty dozen watch or not and then take it from there.

This one “solves” it but is quite far from a “dirty dozen” watch albeit Timor were an original supplier…

I really like the Vertex, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet in hope of a smaller dial variant being released this year (fingers crossed).

The truncated numbers is a design choice I actually love.

But I get why it might not appeal. As an alternative, take a look at Vaer.

They’re not the same quality at Vertex, but are great looking watches nonetheless, and a lot of people on WC swear by them.

I am Seriously thinking of buying this watch Also. The Numbers look awzome to me, and the dial is period accurate. I also cant think of a better dirty dozen style modern field watch. The only question is buy an original or the 100A. Before Don increases the prices !

·

In my opinion, subsidiary seconds dials should cut off the numerals. Otherwise the sub-seconds are so small there's not a lot of point in their existence in the first place.

Most if not all WWW watches look like the Vertex by the way.

·

The original Vertex from the dirty dozen group had similar arrangements, the like of other members of that series. Furthermore, I don't see symmetry issues here. Be that as it may, you might want to check alternative from the renewed dirty dozen group. Vaer, has got a smaller small seconds dial,.to make you happy...

It’s on the Vertex WWW

the original reference WWW

for the M100A

???

Or is the M100A referencing not referencing the Vertex WWW? It wouldn’t be the first time something claims to reference something but doesn’t (Smiths Everest clearly references the Rolex Explorer and not the A404/A409), but I‘m not sure Vertex are going down that route.

@DavidV This was a deal breaker for me too when looking for a Dirty Dozen style watch. As a result, I ended up going with the #vaer A12:

I was fortunate enough to get the 36mm manual wind version with the Peseux 7001 movement, which has quickly become one of my most worn watches.
