Omega speedo reduced or not?

I've got a hankering for a speedo - I've only a small wrist so the reduced seems to be the way to go.

Pros: 1. I would love to own an Omega 2. I was brought up during the moon landings so there's a bit of a pull due to that (gravity?)

Cons: It's massively pushing my budget. 2. Buying all the way from Japan seems risky. 3. I understand servicing costs are a nightmare due to the modular design.

Come on convince me one way or the other.

Smaller is better.

I prefer the Reduced to the Pro. I bought the Pro and moved it on relatively quickly.

I don’t think Japan is risky nation to buy from.

My local watchmaker assured me that he can service the entire movement whenever it’s needed. The module doesn’t need to be swapped out. The service center just does that for quick turnaround.

Reduced is older, they don’t make them anymore. I’d worry about reliability a bit more, although maybe not, I’ve heard conflicting things. Reduced is cheaper. I have small wrists too and have contemplated the reduced. But it’s not really the “real” moonwatch, if you care about those things.

Get one! I have two! The MK40’s are really nice or the reduced ones if you want a smaller speedy pro lookalike.

Buying from Japan not an issue. Realistically outside of buying in your own home country, I can’t think of a safer and better place to buy a watch

I would highly recommend Triple Calendar 3523.80.00 The movement is not a module style so the pushers line up with the crown unlike the other Reduced. It’s also a workhorse based on the 7750 so basically any watchmaker can service it.

Pointer date, day and month.

Sunburst blue dial is gorgeous and understated.

My only issue with it and the reason I’m debating selling mine is it’s a bit small on my 7.5 inch wrist. I have very flat wide wrists and it just doesn’t make good use of the real estate. You can find them in the US in very good condition for less than 3k but box and papers is rare.

Here are the specs:

Calibre: Omega 1151

               ETA/Valjoux 7751

Power reserve: 44 hours

WATER RESISTANCE: 50 metres

Case Diameter: 39 mm

45mm lug to lug

Between lugs: 18 mm

Total product weight: 137 g

I wonder if the reduced, with its smaller dimensions and different kind of movement makes it more top heavy compared to the speedy pro.

It that all the links?

It came to me with a 20/21cm bracelet. I removed a link and a half. It’s about 19.25 now.

Just thinking you can solve the “bit small” issue by wearing it looser.

To me, watches worn on bracelet, at that point on the wrist (below the wrist knuckle) need to be a smidge loose.

i just bought a omega 300 yesterday online from japan i will let you know how it turns out when i get it ,should be here next Thursday or Friday it is used but looks brand new it was bought at a omega store so the international warranty is supposed to good.

Do you have a link to the seller you used?

I have a 6.5” wrist and can’t pull off many 42mm watches. That being said, my Speedy Pro fits perfectly. It’s a slim profile and sits flat on the wrist with no overhang.

I’ve never seen a reduced in person, could there be legibility issues? It’s a busy dial as we all know.

Sometimes that’s true. I have “popeye” arms, they taper from the elbow to the base of the hand without flattening out. Watches end up bellow that bone regardless of how they are sized. The speedy is loose enough that I can rotate it fully around my wrist on a cold day.

I’ve found that a lug to lug 48-52 seems to be the sweet spot for me. The 45mm on the triple date is just a bit small.

The speedy reduced is a great option if the regular size is too large for you.

i bought it on chrono 24 the company name is egawa inc they have been very good to deal with, questions are answered sometime there is confusion with English, Japanese but that is no big deal i asked for a video of the watch and they sent it , so we will see when the watch arrives. My first purchase from japan fingers crossed.

I've bought 3 watches from japan, it was always a good experience, and the taxes were not too bad (around 20%).

·

Don’t want to check in here on Speedo Tuesdays.

I would also recommend any MK40 but not the reduced as movement is not the same. Reduced is costly to fix as it is modular and read comments on web it is not so reliable. If you go for reduced find a serviced piece and have local watchmaker that knows/wants to deal with this movement

I have two MK40’s. A “Schumi” and a Japan Domestic model, 1000 pcs limited edition.

My wife has a Speedy reduced with MOP dial and diamond bezel.

But all three has the same Arabic numeral style that I love :)

I had new Speedmaster 3861 hesalite. Sold it after 6 months, it was too big but I "wanted" to ignore that fact. Bought Reduced with tritium and it is 100 times better for me. Go for Reduced!

Thanks - I'm shopping now 😊

I have three reduced (schumacher editions) and LOVE them. They are perfect and very comfortable

·

The only thing I disagree with about the Reduced design is the spacing of the sub-dials and the versions that use 10-55 minute markers
