Any Love out there for Your Old Citizen?

I got this Navihawk in 1996, and it has been a super nice watch!

Image

I’ve got three Citizens about this old, and every one of them are nicely constructed, well-polished…and have run just as well as any old Toyota Truck!

Image

I don’t see many people talking about Citizen…and I wonder why. I think the brand makes some of the nicest watches for the money.

Do you own an old Citizen that’s special to you that you’d like to share? Why do you think Citizen may not be as popular as other big brands?

I have a Citizen skyhawk I wore on tour in Afghanistan. It used to be my one & only until I started collecting.

If I had to keep only one of my collection, that would be it

Oh that’s awesome! It had to deal with some serious abuse! Dang.

For good reason I’m sure! I bet the watch evokes bitter-sweet memories.

I’ve admired Citizens. It’s lovely but so packed full of detail I find them hard to decipher. Pretty, but not for me.

·

I have a friend who has just the one watch, the current Navihawk in green. Normally I'm not a fan of such busy dials but once he showed me round it I have to say I was envious.

·

Love my old faithful Nighthawk, going on 10 years with her.

I love my Citizen Nighthawk Blue Angels. I gave it to a good friend of mine. I didn’t regret that decision because he deserves it but I do miss that watch everyday 🥲

That’s a really neat version of the watch!

Vintage Citizen Crystal 7 watches have quite the following though I also like the more run of the mill models as well.

My most recent Citizen pick up.

I am a Citizen fan! I don't live in a major urban area, so I would say that Citizen is the number one brand I see on the street and at social functions. It is kind of a shame that the brand's excellent distribution makes it seem to be beneath the purview of collectors. (I feel the same way about Seiko's "core collection", universal at department stores and almost never seen on forums.)

My husband's only watch is a brass bezel Navihawk... looks sharp and he actually knows how to operate the slide rule.

The dial on mine is actually very easy to read.

Here's my beloved Citizen. It used to be my one and only ever since my father passed it down after retiring from the Air Force. Wore it for many years, through flight school and now that I work for a major I have dove deep into the watch game with some heavy hitters.

The old Citizen no longer gets any wrist time. It has been retired to the watch box. It comes out to get some sun to keep it running every once in a while. It has never been serviced but still works as it did since day 1. They're amazing timepieces.

Thanks for this. It is worth a try. When you say light oil was that a watch specific oil? Have a great week!

Frankly, I used a half drop of light machine oil.

I have that. I will try it this afternoon! Thanks again.

Tried it. I think the disconnect is mechanical. I will call Citizen on a repair.

·

Too bad i lost my one and only citizen a long time ago in my youth... i still find myself eyeing some eco drives, particularly the night hawk. Might sneak one sometime when the wife is not looking, lol....

As a lover of Citizen watches, I've come to the realization that as a brand Citizen is respected but not necessarily adored by the masses. Like that one uncle/aunt that you respect but you don't necessarily miss if they don't come over at Christmas. I've had a few for years now. 1 almost 20, took the bracelet of for the first time a few weeks ago and I'm in love all over again like I've renewed vows lol

Been with me for ages lol (about 15 years)

Image

Almost 20 years of long long long service and has seen the toughest days of all my watches lol can you tell 😂😂

My youngest, only 3 weeks old now.

Haha only watch snobs dont like citizens... unfortunately, my wife is one...

I just noticed... Holy shit is that Marty McFly's truck from the 1st BTTF movie? It looks identical from what I remember!! WOW WHAT A MACHINE!!!!! This one is elevated a little more but nostalgia big time!!! I'm an 80s kid so this really hits a nerve! I WANT IT MORE THAN THE WATCH, LMAO 🤣!! 1986 Toyota ext. Cab! It is his!!! I looked!

Ooooh there are citizens for everyone out there! Check em out some more, my newest is very much on the dressy side, if it were smaller my lady would have "borrowed" it the day I brought it home, without me ever feeling it again lol

Image

This one almost has Cartier vibes to it...

Yeah, that’s why I picked the photo. Whoever bought that from the seller is a lucky SOB.

Totally agree... They're a heck of a deal for literally lifetime of service.

Spot on, that's exactly what I thought and why I got it. From a glance you'd never know it was just a regular citizen watch. Cost me less than $400. Very very happy with the purchase.

That was my first citizen.. oh boy, what a watch that is. Bracelet is extra comfy, finishing is amazing and just a great design in general.
